There hasn’t been much information about Illumination and Nintendo’s Super Mario movie lately. The movie is supposed to be in theaters in 7 months. Unfortunately, there may be a good reason for that, if the latest rumor on the movie is to be believed.
You see, Illumination has a subsidiary studio based in Paris.that is for producing animated feature films.This same subsidiary studio also has an official website that includes their portfolio. Inside their portfolio is a page for the Super Mario film.
Recently, the page has gotten an update. The site still has an official poster that mentions the old “holiday 2022” release date, but there is now text to the right of the poster on the page that says that the movie will be “in theaters holiday 2023”, instead of April.
This suggests that the movie has been delayed yet again. There hasn’t been an official announcement of the delay, so there’s still just enough room to consider this a rumor, but this is about as close as you can get to one. If an official announcement is made by Illumination and/or Nintendo, we’ll let you know.
It seems like they may have had to scrap a lot of work already done for the movie… It’s possible Nintendo didn’t like what they were seeing, or there was other drama.
