Illumination founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri, has spoken a little about the company’s untitled animated Super Mario movie which will be hitting theatres next year and features Chris Pratt as Mario himself. Mr. Meledandri said that the Super Mario movie is now around 75 percent and that they have been truly impressed with his performance as the Italian plumber coming on the back of the backlash when it was first announced that he would voice Mario. Here’s what he told attendees at the Barcelona’s CineEurope event:
“Chris was cast because we felt he could give a great performance as Mario. And now that we’ve done about 15 recording sessions, and the movie is three-quarters done, I sit here and say that I love his performance as Mario,” said Meledandri. He said that considering he had “Italian American heritage, he could make that decision without worrying about offending Italians or Italian Americans.” “I think we’re gonna be just fine. Especially because (Pratt) he’s given such a strong performance.”

Thanks to Greatsong1 for sending in the news tip!
WRONG. What does this professional know?!?! I am some neckbeard on the internet and I know more than they do. This movie will be awful!
Yes, I completely agree, despite having little to no information on the matter and my opinion isn’t well constructed anyway. I just have too much time on my hands. This movie will be as much of a disappointment as I was to my parents. Excuse me as I go put on my fedora.
I have zero expectations, hopefully I’m pleasantly surprised. Having a big name cast doesn’t equal a good movie, though it doesn’t mean it can’t be good. Not getting any hopes up and going to keep in mind that it is a movie for children. So if kids like it and then get interested in Nintendo games then that is a good thing.
At least with this people will be confident in playing Mario games compare to watching the sonic movie and starting off with a modern sonic game that’s gotta be like whiplash hoping sonic frontiers is good though tbh
Exactly. People are still keeping there expectations low and won’t get there hopes up believe this film won’t be good enough.
No, they got Chris Pratt for “Star Recognition” Along with the rest of the cast just like every Animated Movie has to do.
SO GIVE US A TRAILER OR SOMETHING ALREADY. If you’re so sure that Pratt has nailed a performance as Mario, give us proof of it already- show us he was the right casting choice (he totally wasn’t by the way).
I’m glad they didn’t go with Martinet. Such an easy, safe casting choice. They took a risk with Pratt & I hope it pays off. I do kinda wish they took an even bigger risk & got an unknown for the role, though. Charles won’t be around forever.
