It has been revealed that The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Direct which aired on Tuesday eclipsed both Gamescom Opening Night Live and Sony’s recent State of Play broadcast . It couldn’t beat the Grand Theft Auto VI reveal on YouTube, but that was to be expected. At its peak The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Direct had 2.1 million viewers. Here’s how it compared against the other recent showcases:
- The GTA 6 reveal on YouTube (excluding Netflix) managed 4.1 million
- The PlayStation State of Play last week peaked at one million.
- Gamescom Opening Night Live peaked at two million.
- Peak viewership for the Mario Kart World Nintendo Direct was 930,000 in April 2025

this is anecdotal, but I already know six people who are buying a Switch 2 because of this game. I genuinely believe it’ll clear 10 million units sold within it’s first fiscal quarter (ending December 31st, 2026). This will be right behind Mario Kart World for probably a long time in terms of the best-selling Nintendo Switch 2 games
Love this ! I can totally get that.
I have to agree, OOT when it was released was one of best gaming moments.
I think this will do well with the older demographic
Based. That SoP is shit even compared to the mid Direct. Doritos Pope and Sony takes the L.
I tried to watch one state of play, and I didn’t like it. Honestly, it makes sense why this doubled the views from state of play, Oot is one of the most popular and iconic games of all time.
Honestly, I never watch either of the other two so I will always be watching Nintendo directs no matter what they’re aimed at. My husband now wants his own switch too because of the 40th anniversary edition, but the 40th anniversary edition and other subsequent 40th anniversary Nintendo switch 2 accessories we’re already sold out by the time we went to look. Which was yesterday morning. Hopefully they get a restock soon so we can pre-order our 40th anniversary. Zelda switch 2.
