The newly created Nintendo Pictures is rolling full steam ahead with their first movie, the Super Mario Movie, which is due to be released on 7th April, 2023. Today, the company’s flashy new website has gone live and although it is currently in Japanese only, it gives fans a little more information about Nintendo Picture’s plans. The blurb on the site says that the company’s ambition is for consumers around the world to learn about Nintendo characters through the medium of film which will remain in their hearts forever. The site also says that Nintendo Pictures challenges themselves to produce unique and surprising films based on their IPs. We don’t know what the company plans next after the Super Mario Movie but the Kyoto-based company has so many successful franchises that they are spoilt for choice.
Nintendo has launched new website for Nintendo Pictures

||Lord Koizumi is a director there, great choice…||
Well let’s hope this is the start of some epic movie shenanigans
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure Nintendo’s recently-acquired Nintendo Pictures (primarily a 3D animation studio who previously worked on various unconventional products and campaigns) had anything to do with the upcoming Illumination-produced Super Mario movie that’s been in development for years.
*pretty sure they DIDN’T have anything to do with it. Doh!
Actually you could be right there, I forgot. Though I’m assuming any movie released after Super Mario Movie will be under Nintendo Pictures, unless it’s been created by an external animation studio like Illumination (I’m not too sure how it all works for movies) it could be a tied production under Illumination and Nintendo Pictures,
It will be interesting to see what Nintendo comes up with.
“. . .the Kyoto-based company has so many successful franchises that they are spoilt for choice.”
Oh come on, you know it’s only going to be the big ones like Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem. Screw the little guys like Star Fox or F-Zero…
In phase one for sure, but if the movies get successful enough we can possibly see them branch out.
Star Fox would be an acceptable IP as a replacement for Star Wars. And Star Trek since that, too, is goin to shite.
With multiple theme parks and movie projects on the horizon, Nintendo’s in a pretty good position to eat Disney’s lunch right now
