There has been news on a lot of video gaming movie adaptation news lately. However, one film that you might have forgotten about is a sequel to the 2019 movie Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. In fact, the sequel had been announced before the first film had even released in theaters.
Well, 4 years have passed since the sequel was confirmed, and Detective Pikachu 2 is still nowhere to be seen. Nevertheless, Legendary Entertainment has not forgotten about the project. A representative for Legendary Entertainment spoke to Polygon with some good news and bad news. The good news is that the film is “still in active development”. The bad news is that, unfortunately, the representative was unable to confirm who is working on it.
It is worth noting that, recently, Detective Pikachu writers Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez confirm that, while they’d love to contribute to the project, they are currently not involved in the film’s production. Samit even said that “it’s an ongoing conversation that is still not over to this day”. Samit also mentioned that the situation was “complicated” and involved “a lot of big studio, corporate Pokemon rights things that we’re not privy to”.
The film is ok. Oddly enough the worse thing about it is the main human actor. He just isn’t good at all. I don’t know if it’s down to not being good acting against nothing, where the CGI would eventually be, or if he’s just a bad actor. 🤷🏻♂️
I almost thought they were talking about the sequel, guess everyone forgot that’s still in development
I just assumed the franchise was canceled. We were still in gen 7 when they were announced.
Honestly, people assume this sequel was going to be cancelled because we haven’t heard much about it since its announcement 4 years ago. But now because of this small update by the film company, the film is still in active development. However, the only thing that is missing we haven’t heard much in a while is the game sequel base on it for Nintendo Switch.
I think they brought it up that the sequel was like still in development last year, so maybe their trying to release around the same time as the sequel movie? 🤔
Possibly. That could be it honestly because the Switch is half way through its lifespan.
I still have no idea how there CAN be a sequel when you consider how the 2019 film ended.
As much as I would love a sequel, my question is where do they go from where the first one ended?
It all seemed wrapped up in a bow to me
Very excited about this, loved Detective Pikachu!
