Lord of the Rings: Gollum remerges with a fresh new trailer

One of the more interesting Lord of the Rings projects in development is The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which as the name implies, revolves around the overlooked Gollum as the central character. The gritty 3D platforming adventure game is still Nintendo Switch bound, according the the newly released trailer, and is due to be released sometime later this year. Hopefully Daedalic Entertainment’s latest project will deliver on its promise to create a dark and action-packed Lord of the Rings adventure.

“More of Daedalic’s Untold Story was revealed today in a trailer featuring Gollum’s extraordinary adventure in search of his Precious. The original story takes you to several regions of Middle-earth where you meet well-known characters from the books of J.R.R. Tolkien. You will need remarkable agility and guile to avoid the dangers en route. Be part of Gollum’s journey in 2023.”

  1. the game does look a bit off and from what I get when I listen to videogame podcasts and browse the web, it doesn’t necessarily generate any hype so I guess it won’t really be a success.

But looking at this and thinking about the core concept of experiencing the LotR world with this sorta weak character that was among the more interesting one in LotR lore, I do understand why they thought it would be a good idea for a videogame structure that would also allow cinematic elements. After I’m currently reading LotR with my kid, this somehow looks like I would like to rent it somewhere for a week or so.
