Unless there’s an unfortunate last minute delay, we should be playing the highly-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in eight weeks of so. Data provided by Japanese retail chain COMG has revealed that the game’s pre-orders are tracking ahead of pre-orders for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Clearly the Nintendo Switch has a massive instal base now, compared to when Breath of the Wild launched in 2017, but it is still impressive given it is still a couple of months until the game’s releases. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches worldwide on 12th May.
Japan: COMG reveals Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom already surpassed Breath of the Wild pre-orders

That’s cause everybody was burned by the WiiU.
Can’t be burnt by the Wii U if no one bought a Wii U.
That’s b/c BotW was on two consoles. This only compares Switch pre-orders for both. I bought BotW for Wii U for example. Great final game for the gamepad and Wii U.
Wii U sales were significantly less than on the Switch, so TotK is going to catch up to both combined soon enough if it hasn’t already. The real reason for this is because there are currently 25 million Switches in Japan, compared to 0 prior to the launch of BotW (with the secondary reason being that BotW increased the profile of the Zelda series).
That’s because the install base is much bigger now then it was when BOTW came out.
