US: Mario Movie sets another animation box office record with $58,000,000 in its 3rd weekend

To say that The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been successful would be a massive understatement. The movie has been available to watch in theaters for a few weeks now, and there has yet to be a single week where the movie has not broken any animation box office records.

Its third weekend in theaters was no exception. It has been reported by The Warp that Nintendo and Illumination’s movie received another $58,000,000 in the United States’ box office in its third weekend. This breaks yet another animation box office record. Universal is now expecting that, before this weekend is over, the movie will surpass $850,000,000 worldwide.

If so, it has the opportunity to pass the $939,000,000 global total that Minions: The Rise of Gru grossed. That would make The Super Mario Bros. Movie the highest-grossing animated film in the post-COVID shutdown era. Even if it doesn’t do that worldwide, the Mario movie is expected to reach $434,000,000 in North Americaalone by the end of this weekend. This would surpass Minions: The Rise of Gru’s domestic box office total.

    1. That would still make it #13 in top grossing animated movies of all time.

      What amazed me was when I saw that The Lion King remake was #1…

    1. “Nightmare”?? You know who would disagree with you? Bob Hoskins (God rest his soul).

      So let me ask you this… do you speak ill of the dead, sir?

  1. Mario is video games’ true hero. Him and Donkey Kong are the poster children of our hobbies and lifestyle. Why people are amazed mario is selling this well is beyond me 😎.

    F=ma.

  2. A movie based off of one of the biggest game icons ever is making money? Who would have ever thought.
    This movie is pretty bad honestly. The story is crap and is nothing but a 90 minute ad for Nintendo. They throw the whole women power crap throughout the whole thing and make Mario and Luigi look stupid and weak. I recommend everyone miss this movie. The ratings are only propped up because of reverse review bombing. Look through them and you will see multiple reviews of the same exact comments.
    Go watch the original if you want to watch Mario, it is 100xs better.

      Ah, you’re one of THOSE people. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
      Also, you’re crapping on this movie yet plugging the god-awful ’93 version? The one that’s ashamed of it’s own source material?

      You’d make an excellent clown my dude.

        1. I’m about to treat him like I do Gruntilda: delete any notification or email with his name since I already know they’re just gonna repeat roughly the same thing as nearly every other comment they make, anyway.
