A Twitter user who correctly leaked Sonic Superstars and Everybody 1-2 Switch before they were officially announced has stated that a Nintendo Direct will air this week. The event will apparently feature a brand new 2D Mario game and a remake of a classic Super Nintendo game. Nintendo has yet to confirm when the next Nintendo Direct presentation will be held but a couple of individuals have said it is set to air this week.

No the sky is the limit for a new 2d multiplayer mario game, there are many ideas and worlds settings weren’t in New mario series also I wish it have a new art style.

      1. Don’t get me wrong, I’d snap up a new 2d Mario likes there’s no tomorrow, but I imagine they should be more focused on the next main 3D entry

    2. A new 2D Mario will surely be welcomed. But I am sure they are still working on the next big 3D mario

    3. Because i like play, not create or download created levels. “New Super Mario Bros 3” sound great for me 👍🥰🥰🥰

    4. Figuratively you are correct, but in reality there are so many people who are bad at level design it’s horrendous. I know very few creators who make consistently good Mario levels in Maker.

    5. Nah, Nintendo EAD knows the exact amount of difficulty to add to their games, and have a perfect level curve to them. These Mario Maker titles are a mix bag of levels. I rather a new installment.

  1. I’m surprisingly excited at the prospect of a new 2D Mario game, if only because I have dreams of grandeur for all the new possibilities and art styles and game mechanics and directions they could take a new title after their previous experience with things like Mario Maker and NSMB fatigue.

Realistically I should be steeling myself for another NSMB game.

  2. If this is correct, I’m guessing that it’s gotta be an A Link to the Past remake. The developer Grezzo has finished and released a Zelda remake once every 4 years since OoT 3D was released in 2011, and since it’s been 4 years since their last remake that means we’re due for another this year. ALTTP being the only Zelda game released on the SNES, if this report is correct, that’s got to be what it is. As much as I’m dying for a full remake of EarthBound, its probably gonna be Zelda

  3. I would love a remake of Earthbound by a developer like Grezzo, using a similar art style to their remake of Link’s Awakening, I truly think that could be something very special. Even though Super Metroid is my favourite game of all time, I’m not sure how I feel about that potentially receiving the remake treatment. On the one hand I think Mercury Steam could do a fantastic job, but I also think why mess with perfection?

    1. If they can do some kind of combo of 3D & 16-bit, I’d be all in for a Super Metroid remake. Also, like some other remakes, maybe an option in settings for the old soundtrack in case people prefer that over the new one.

  4. I have two thoughts on this rumor:
    1. Nintendo saw Sonic Superstars announced and thought “Sega out here feeling a little too successful, we need to humble them real quick” (that’s a joke, please do not use this comment as an excuse to start another fandom war) REAL TALK: part of me really hopes that they actually base this 2D Mario game on the movie or at least do something involving the movie

If they are doing a remake of a classic NES game, I really hope that is either the original kid Icarus or mysterious masamune Castle (and I feel like I really butchered that name)

  5. I hope we get a new 2D Mario. It’s not like they’ve run out of ideas for those games. I just hope it’s not related to the NEW branding because in all honesty, that brand ironically screams old now

    1. It’s definitely old even though I don’t wanna admit it. NSMB was made during SMB NES’s 20th anniversary, and NSMB is only 3 years away from its own 20th anniversary.

  6. honestly i think nsmb should’ve ended with nsmb2. nsmbU was already beating a mutilated rotting horse. if they announce a new 2d mario game, it should be a NEW 2d mario game. Leave the nsmb games alone and move on with the series. I think most would be pretty happy if they did.

  7. If they can do some kind of combo of 3D & 16-bit, I’d be all in for a Super Metroid remake. Also, like some other remakes, maybe an option in settings for the old soundtrack in case people prefer that over the new one.
