Persona 3 Reload leaker says no Switch version planned, Metaphor unlikely too

The individual who leaked Persona 3 Reload before the game was officially announced says that the game won’t be coming to the Nintendo Switch. He also said that there is no publisher for a Switch version of the game so unless that changes, it won’t happen. He says that the same about Atlus’s new project Metaphor: ReFantazio, which was unveiled during the Xbox Game Showcase and has also been confirmed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Steam according to Atlus’s official website.

  1. Not surprised. The Switch is a very weak console. I’m more than ready for Switch 2. It has to make a lot of improvements besides specs. It needs a complete revision of its main controller, the Joy-Cons are awful. It needs a cheaper, larger capacity cartridge. A large chunk of the Switch’s physical games catalogue is a joke, huge additional downloads required.

    1. The Switch was able to play Persona 5 Royal quite well.

It’s just the devs not bothering in this case. But of course, the easy thing to say is that the Switch is weaker than a N64.

      1. I never said the “Switch is weaker than an N64”. You said that. Which is daft. And I disagree that the Switch runs ports “quite well”. Massive compromises have to be made, be they lower frame rates, resolution, textures, etc.

  2. Seems a bit silly, given it looks like this is running on the Persona 5 Royal engine that is already on Switch. Still, at least there is a version of Persona 3 on the Switch (and should be noted that irritatingly P3R will be missing some content from P3P so there are actually pros and cons to each)

    1. Reload is running on Unreal Engine, not the one Royal uses (still isn’t too much of a difference graphically though).

And while Portable does have the FeMC route while Reload won’t, I’d still say Portable comes off looking worse between the two.
Despite it being a so-called “””remaster”””, it’s still very much just an upres’d PSP game with all of the accompanying technical limitations to boot, so not having Reload on the Switch does unfortunately limit a lot of people to an unquestionably inferior version of the game (well, unless they REALLY love the FeMC of course).

        1. Oh I’m fully aware there’s other unreal games on Switch, I wasn’t trying to make the point that Reload couldn’t run on the Switch. I was just mentioning that it wasn’t actually the same engine as P5R.

This is indeed 100% an Atlus moment.

      1. Oh 100% re: P3R being the superior version of the game – I mean it’s a remake done at P5 standards which really does up the ante for the series in a big way – I’m not going to sit here and say it’s comparable. It’s just that P3R will be missing content that if you want to experience you will have to play P3P. Of course, P3P is also missing content from FES I believe. It’s all just a mess to be honest.

Interesting that the game is running on a different engine given that they’ve basically just taken the UI of P5R and made it blue. At any rate, regardless of engine etc. I didn’t see anything on the P3R trailer that made me think it couldn’t run on Switch. I don’t know how P5R sold on Switch but I guess not well enough to convince them that they need to put this game on it at any rate. It’s a shame, I expected Persona to do well on Nintendo platforms, seemed a good match to me. I’ll be playing P3R on Xbox Game Pass anyway.

        1. Yeah Portable is missing “The Answer” (an epilogue story taking place a couple of months after the ending of the main game that answers a lot of lingering questions and adds a lot to the overall lore of the game), which is a big thing to miss in a rerelease, and even worse now that’s it’s not going to be in yet ANOTHER rerelease.

You’re 100% correct in describing the whole thing as a complete mess, Reload really should’ve been the definitive version of P3 (it’s basically the one thing that all P3 fans were asking for in a remake after all, but Atlus gonna Atlus I guess).

True there’s not really any reason why Reload should’ve be able to run on Switch from what we’ve seen, and I don’t think P5Rs sales were an issue since they’re planning to release P5 Tactica on Switch later this year.
Maybe it was the Portable port that sold poorly and that gave Atlus the idea that Switch users aren’t interested in Persona 3?
It’s a dumb as hell reason but this is Atlus we’re talking about so it wouldn’t surprise me.
