Long before Nintendo and Illumination ever thought of creating an animated movie based on the former company’s Super Mario franchise, there was a live-action film that didn’t get to experience the success that this year’s Mario movie got to enjoy. This year marks 30 years since the release of Super Mario Bros., alternatively known as Super Mario Bros.: The Movie.
There hasn’t been much acknowledgement of the anniversary in Europe and in the Americas, even though the film has developed a cult following decades after its release. However, it’s a different story in Japan, where it released with the name Super Mario: Goddess of the Demon Empire. Beginning on September 15th, Japanese audiences will be able to attend a theatrical re-release of the film. Not only that, but the version shown will be a 4K restoration of the movie.

PLEASE tell me this will get a home media release… I would LOVE that
it already has, check ebay for REGION A Bluray
I will be there if this comes state side. Love this movie.
Just abso-friggin’-lutely LOVE the movie!! Still got my original VHS on me shelf!
I’m both surprised and grateful that the first three comments are positive. Sure the live action Mario movie might not hold a candle to the CGi one, but I still like it.
Hoping for a European release.
Gimme! The horrible movies of the 80s & 90s were still entertaining, unlike some of today’s. Mainly because you get labeled a terrible person if you don’t like the stupid thing. Unless it’s something like Joker or Rambo Last Blood then it’s a-okay to trash it. shrug Anyway, I’d love a 4k re-release of this, He-Man, & Street Fighter. There’s probably others but these are the main ones that come to mind atm.
I hope this gets an international release and not just in Japan so everyone can enjoy it.
Nice post
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Very cool. I will probably go and will definitely pick up the 4KUHD (deluxe packaging, please).
This one is so much better that the dumb CGI movie. This had some soul unlike the trash we got lately, where Peach was a girl boss.
