Nintendo says “we’ll try not to let everyone wait” for Pikmin 5

Today was a major news day for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Hands-on impressions, a Direct presentation, and interviews have all been going on today. However, just because the spotlight has been mainly on the new 2D Mario game, doesn’t mean other Nintendo franchises haven’t been forgotten.

For example, Eurogamer recently spoke to producer Takashi Tezuka and director Shiro Mouri about Super Mario Bros. Wonder. At the end of the interview, the subject changed to Pikmin. After a decade of waiting, Pikmin 4 released in July of this year. Tezuka, who was also the producer for Pikmin 4, was asked if they will be making sure that the wait for Pikmin 5 will not be as long. Tezuka responded by saying that “I think that would be best as well. We’ll try not to let everyone wait”.

I mean, think of it this way; Would you really want to place the future of Pikmin on the hands of the Nintendo Wii U? Pikmin 3 didn’t sell well on the Nintendo Wii U so it’s unlikely Pikmin 4 would have done much better.
But then look at the Nintendo Switch, a system that has sold more than 10x the amount the Nintendo Wii U did. I’d say that is a much better place to put your game if you want it to stick around as long as possible.

Yes, you had to wait a long time, but what would you rather have? A long wait but get the game eventually? Or release it too soon and risk the future of the entire franchise. Considering what F-Zero and Golden Sun fans have to face knowing their franchises are likely dead, I think a long wait is much more appealing.

      1. Will if you put it that way…. I perfer to wait for it to sell on a successful console so the franchise will continue and won’t be like F-Zero fans and die. Good point. And it’s nice that Nintendo developers already talking about Pikmin 5.
