Leaker claims live action Zelda movie in production between Nintendo & Universal

Known video game leaker My Time To Shine, who has a decent track record when it comes to gaming leaks, has tweeted that Nintendo has partnered with Universal Studios to develop a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. Nintendo’s first movie with Illumination, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was a massive success, making it one of the biggest animated movies of all time. Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider previously said that Nintendo was working with Universal on the project back in June, so this isn’t new news per se, but we shall presumably know for sure soon.

  1. If they ever do it , it has to be on the same level as Lord of Rings or I would be dissapointed. Also make it realistic and darker not a full blown comedy movie. Again like lord of the Rings vs lets say Marvel crap. A link of the past , Ocarina of time , Zelda 1+2 , Twilight princess all embodied this , the worlds where harsh and dark places with monsters everywhere and the threat of Ganon always looming over you. Just make it a more mature movie , use as little as possible CGI , write a top notch story , get great actors and a director who can really pull it off and if possible loves the franchise and knows it inside out , like Peter Jackson with lotr.

  2. Oh man, I am cautiously hyped: for this movie to work, it MUST have a more serious tone. I am not saying it has to be dark, but it absolutely can NOT be stuffed full of jokes and gags.

Also, as much as a lot of people would hate it, Link has to talk: silent protagonists MIGHT work in games, but not so much in film.

That being said, PLEASE don’t hatemonger whoever they cast

    1. Silent protagonists can work in avant-garde auteur movies. Not in Marvel fare.

I hope this rumored Zelda movie is more the former.

    2. Silent protagonists work in auteur-led avant-garde movies. Not in Marvel fare or the typical product movie.

Hopefully the Zelda movie is much more the former than the latter.

        1. It’s not a completely silent role, but Mad Max in Fury Road has very few lines and so much of his emotion and what he’s trying to convey are done through his facial expressions and actions.
In that vein, Keanu in John Wick 4 is similar with how many lines he has – that works because 1) there are interesting supporting characters for him to contrast against, and 2)the action is so amazing that you don’t need him to speak a lot.
If they were to do Link as a silent protagonist, I think it would be wise to mirror what those movies do and have a really great support cast to counter his silence, and really great action.
