Hogwarts Legacy Switch getting major day-one patch

In a little over 2 weeks, Hogwarts Legacy will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch. The game has already been released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X earlier this year. The Switch version was originally supposed to release in July, but the date had been changed to its current November 17th release and the Switch port had been delayed.

That said, Portkey Games and Warner Bros. have announced that the Switch release of Hogwarts Legacy will be receiving a day-one patch. In fact, it will be a major patch, with 8GB of storage space being needed to install. It is being speculated that the patch is mainly due to the publisher wanting to cut costs on Switch licensing fees.

Could you explain more about this?

    1. Switch cartridges come in these sizes and the bigger the cart, the higher the license fee
      1 GB
      2 GB
      4 GB
      8 GB
      16 GB
      32 GB

      1. This is so crazy as I just got a 1.5TB microSD for just $150! And you can buy a 256GB microSD for $6! My old 1TB microSD card only has 22GB left and I buy everything I can physically! I have like 40 physical games and still filled up a 1TB card. 32GB needs to be the standard size for switch and 64GB needs to be the standard for the Switch 2.

  2. switch cartridges come in a 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. bigger the cartridge, the more expensive the licensing fee

  3. You’d imagine that games would have to be feature complete to pass lotcheck, thus you’d couldn’t really do a trick like that. But idk

  4. I really hope the next console’s cartridges are cheaper (if it even uses them), they are main reason we always get botched/incomplete physical releases, like the MGS master collection, Resident evil, megaman, etc

  5. Well this made the physical version worthless for me to own since it will be a broken unplayable copy once the switch online services shutdown.
