Nintendo patents dual-screen device that splits in half

Nintendo, like the vast majority of companies, patents numerous designs and mechanisms that could be applied to future products. The latest patent from the Kyoto-based company is a dual-screen device similar to the Nintendo 3DS, which includes a third screen visible when the system is closed. It is an interesting design, but whether Nintendo uses it in the future remains to be seen. Though, it would be interesting to see the top and bottom operating independently of each other.

  1. This is bad idea :( i love ds and 3ds games but most games is created for one screen and i dont trust producers create second screen data like in great mgs3 or dragonquest 3ds in nintendo quality. Better for releasing old ps3 and ps4 games is one screen :)
(Or second screen like on 3ds for better theatrhythm gameplay :)

  2. Finally, Wii U games will be played with both screens again. The top display for the main game, and the bottom for the comment that says “Look at top screen”.

Wii U gamers are gonna be so back!

  3. The return of DS, 3DS, and and Wii U games (aside from the ones Nintendo doesn’t care about, and there are a lot of them)?

  4. Maybe this is the Switch 2. One of the halves docks to the TV while the other half acts like a wii U game pad. And it can split in half for on the go 2 player, like the switch does with it’s joycons but better cos each player has their own screen instead of squinting at half a 7 inch screen.

  5. This is 100% what I expected and was hoping for. Nintendo was always gonna back to dual screens so they can start adding DS games to the classics library. Looking forward to how it will be utilized.

  6. I’m not forking $400+ to be focused on DS, 3Ds and Wii U tittles. Those duel screen better be doing something totally different and never done before. I lioenold games too but don’t be in R&D more towards old hardware.q

  7. It makes me wonder if they are reintroducing the 3DS or something like it, so that the switch 2 (or whatever it is) can be a home console again, and this new 3DS being the handheld, in other words the switch 2 may not be hybrid, and they are going back to the old days when times were (not so) good. If so, it’s an extremely bold move from Nintendo, and I’m genuinely worried, hopefully I’m just carelessly worrying and the switch 2 is in safe hands. Maybe this device works as a DS and 3DS when you open the clamshell, and acts as a Wii U pad when it’s closed, with the one screen on the outside. this would make so much sense, and this could be a device just so you can visit all the old libraries of games, which would be awesome, and they know it haha :)
