Nintendo president shuts down Switch 2 rumours

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has completely shut down Nintendo Switch 2 rumours, which online speculation suggests that a successor announcement is reasonably imminent. He also said that the company did not show off the device at Gamescom 2023 to developers behind closed doors. He told investors that these are just online rumours and are “not true.” Mr. Furukawa also said that the recent patient by the Kyoto-based company for a new dual-screen device was always going to be made public, but it does not mean it will be used in a future Nintendo product.

There have been some reports on Internet news sites that have suggested a successor, but Furukawa said, “Rumors are circulating on the Internet as if they are public information, but they are inaccurate. Citing such reports as “Nintendo explained about the next-generation console to certain software makers and “Nintendo demonstrated the new model at an overseas event in the summer,” Furukawa denied the rumors as “not true. In October, it was also revealed that Nintendo had applied for a patent for a game device with two screens, but Furukawa said, “We applied for the patent on the understanding that the information would be made public. It does not mean that it will be incorporated in future products as is.

  1. Yeah right!
We know the score, don’t wanna dampen those Christmas switch sales.
I honestly don’t think Nintendo should leave it much longer to reveal the next console, next year seems pretty promising.

  2. Crazy to think that the Switch will be my last Nintendo console. As I’m entering my 30s, I have so many other priorities in life that gaming has become one of the last things I even do. I’m lucky to even get an hour a week of game time.

But I wouldn’t trade my wife, kids, or my other hobbies even for a minute of gaming. Now that I’m entering a new career, it feels like the Nintendo Switch is really the last video game console I will ever play.

Maybe I’ll buy a new Nintendo console when my kids are old enough, just so they can have the happy experiences I grew up with too.

    1. PLEASE play games with your kids, even when they’re young! So many of my good childhood memories revolved around gaming, and a huge chunk of those was playing SM64 with only 1 controller shared with me, my dad, and my two siblings. The only time we could play anything multiplayer like Pokemon Stadium or Mario Kart was by bringing our controller to our relatives’ house. These are genuinely good family moments, and introducing gaming at a young age is a really good way to get your kids to bond as opposed to something like giving each one an iPad with unlimited screen time.

    2. Gaming with your kids will be a great way to play with them. They look up to you and want to do the things that you do, so playing games with them that fit both you and your kids’ interests is a perfect way to spend time with them

  3. Between stuff like the tech going into the new switch according to the rumors, and especially the price point that was reported. Well I’m kinda not surprised.

But tbh I wouldn’t put it past the new guy to just lie

  4. The fact of denying proves that this is true, in which case they would have let it circulate on purpose… Still, I have the impression that many are trying to push Nintendo to unveil it by being convinced of what it will be,… I remain convinced that it will not be as you imagine

  5. They also said the same about the switch before it was announced, people need to realize they aren’t gonna mention it anytime soon especially with them adding new oled bundles that will most likely ruin there sales had they just flat out said a new console coming soon

  6. What people need to realize that they not gonna announced the next gen system anytime soon. I’m glad the Nintendo president notice the Switch 2 rumors and pull the plug from it.

  7. He’s lying.
They don’t wan holiday sells to be tainted by the information is all.
Anything to protect their bottom line.
They lied about the Switch as well before it was announced.
Plus, they removed the old Switch announcement videos.
    Something is freaking up.

    1. Well, this is being mistranslated a lot. He said it was “inaccurate”, not “untrue or not true”. There is a difference because he can’t just lie on an investor meeting, it’s actually illegal and can get him in trouble. Wording is very important when making these press releases.

  8. Notice that he never explicitly states that the Switch 2 isn’t just around the corner, only that a specific rumor isn’t true and that the recent patent probably won’t be part of the Switch 2 (in it’s current form at launch).

He isn’t “lying”, he’s just addressing false rumors and withholding information on the launch announcement. My guess is they’ll announce next year and release before the holidays.
