It seems a lot of gamers received Super Mario Bros. Wonder for Christmas as the game very narrowly missed out on the No.1 spot in the UK boxed video game charts. Christopher Dring, who publishes the UK charts each week on Games Industry, says that in terms of physical releases in the United Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder outsold both Spider-Man 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He concluded by saying that Nintendo Switch physical game sales are usually higher than other platforms, especially at Christmas.

Note: tends to be, but digital also accounts for over 45% of their overall sales. So let’s not act like with digital included SM2 and COD would reach or surpassed SMBW.

It’s not surprising to see Super Mario Bros. Wonder selling so well during the holidays. Many people seem to enjoy mixing modern releases with classic games. I’ve been replaying older PlayStation titles alongside newer Nintendo games recently, and keeping a well-organized emulator setup has made it much easier. I usually find myself going back to older PlayStation games because they have a different style of progression and gameplay compared with many newer releases.
