The Pokemon Company releases statement regarding Palworld

Today, The Pokémon Company has issued a press release addressing its concerns regarding the ultra-popular Palworld which has become a runaway success. While the game is notably different from the Pokemon series of games, The Pokémon Company says it is investigating whether the game uses any Pokemon intellectual property or assets. Whether ti does or not remains to be seen.

We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024. We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.

  1. I’m not sure who’s side to be on. On one hand, making blatant rip offs of existing IPs is wrong. On the other hand, so is abusing said IPs.

  2. PocketPair got incentive from the Pokemon company, the Pokemon company got knocked off there high horse and has real competition. Let this be a lesson for the Pokemon company, they can’t just release second rate garage and slap a popular name on the case and expect a profit because it’s a popular IP . PocketPair hasn’t infringed on there intellectual property, they got incentive from the Pokemon company. The fanbase was starved for a monster catching game after Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, The Pokemon company just got served like yesterdays lunch. The Pokemon company got lazy, trying to pass off second rate garage and assume people will purchase it because it’s popular. The Pokemon company just got served like yesterdays lunch!

    1. So ehmm… Something, something, lunch… A little more something, something and the lunch…
I’m gettin’ all hungry here XD

    2. That’s why Pokémon scarlet and violet sold 24 million copies and they were $60 each with $40 dlc lol. Starved for monster hunting with scarlet and violet? How? When I play those games I see monsters all around me. So I’m just curious what is this second rate game that makes no money that you speak of? Scarlet and Violet are EASILY the best Pokémon games ever lol bunch of cry baby haters

  3. Well of course… This game starts doing well and suddenly Pokemon is all up in arms. Only when their throne is challenged do they go to battle.

Well gee whiz Pokemon maybe if you actually out effort into your games you wouldn’t have people make games that directly compete against yours.

    1. Sometimes artists and developers behind the game trying to make the game much similar then Pokemon or any type of monster games like Yu gi oh or Yo Kai Watch. Sometimes it’s hard to create similarities that came out from a comic book, video games or TV shows for short. Inspiration is everything.

The game might have dis well for it’s first day on having early access, but the company want to make sure that it didn’t do no harm with it’s brand or any form of IPs the company own.

  4. As much for the mods, I understand the process, as much as I don’t understand it…. They copied point by point the Pokedex, Arena Battle, and Attack or what?

    1. They copied nothing. The monstet capture feature is not an invention by the Pokemon Company or Nintendo but earlier games like Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei. This whole “Palworld stole and copied from Pokemon” is just the crying of butthurt fans, who can’t deal the fact, that a different dev team tries such a game.

    2. The controversy doesn’t come from TPC, Gamefreak, or Nintendo not wanting competition, or it’s fan mad that there’s another successful monster catching game. The controversy comes from the creator of palworld admiting to using AI to create models and people finding similarities of it’s models and multiple models from Pokemon models that would be similar if they had been merged using AI. He was pushing AI hard in 2022, pushed it’s developers to use it in its games, and even made a game around it, but now he’s walking that back saying that no AI was used to make Palworld. That’s were the controversy stems from.

      1. The company that made the game posted a response in regards to how they respect their artists on this project and they didnt use AI. As you mentioned one of their prior games openly used AI and the company was transparent about it with the project involved, that same transparency giving some credit to them saying they aren’t using it for this game.

If this is discovered to be a lie, then they deserve the criticism, but there is no evidence whatsoever.

As for the models, the person who came out with tons of “evidence” showing the models matched up later admitted that they stretched and altered models to make them fit, their excuse was because Palworld incentivizes animal abuse.

I expect this to blow over with no major ramifications for the Palworld devs. Are the designs lazy? Honestly, yeah. But game freak also recycles designs(wiglett anyone?) and makes shoddy games with bare minimum performance.

        1. If you’re talking about RYO, then no, he admitted to scaling the models, not stretching them, which is what everyone seems to think when he mentioned altering. X&Y models are much smaller than S&V or Palworlds models, so it’s obvious he had to do it.

I honestly don’t care what happens to them. I wasn’t necessarily impressed with the game, I was hyped for it when it announced because it did seem like an open world Pokemon game, but it obviously wasn’t.

Well, let’s hope that at the very least this is a swift kick in GF’s ass to do better.

      2. I think I understand the pointers on what your saying dude. I think the game maybe has the ability to used AI or any type of sources they used. Besides, I seen tons of AI art all over the Internet and artist trying really hard to shutdown AI art softwares by trying copying other people’s arts which makes artists really hard to get commissions from other people by doing their art for them.

  5. Even so I never even seen Palworld in action or seen any gameplay of it, I think the developers behind the popular game wanted to make the game much similar then Pokemon honestly. People wanted to make things or craft things that id similar.

I understand that Nintendo and Pokemon company is aware of these type of issues of DMCA about copying things that other companies made it developed. Some people and streamers still hates Nintendo for their annoying policy for copyright infringement base on their IPs.

    1. It doesn’t play like Pokemon, it’s an Ark Survival Evolved clone with Pokemon-like monsters instead of dinosaurs and servers that actually work(Ark is awful). It’s fun, but its obvious that its in early access(still performs great and looks decent, but it needs a lot of polish and more features).

  6. Funny how they didn’t seem to care back in Summer of 2023, surely it’s not because the game is actually showing them up and threatening their bottom line…..is it?

  7. The Pokemon company just wants a piece of the Palworld pie. The Pokemon company smells what PocketPair is cookin.

      1. This must be a huge wake up call for The Poke Co. Never heard of this game till I read it sold millions in days.
I hope fans flock to another franchise. Pokemon needs to feel an impact due to their complacency.

      2. There are some type of aspects that the Pokemon Company didn’t even bother of using any type of designs in there final game from any type of Pokemon species. Ever heard of FakenMon that artists made on social long ago?

  8. The thing is companies are pretty much forced to sue if they did rip off their models iirc or else it weakens any future case where someone does.

It’s not really that pokemon company really gives that much of a shit honestly…
If they released an ass game and said it’s for the Switch 2 the same amount if not more people would buy it as their previous games.

  9. This is a nothing complaint, aside from a few uncanny resemblances. I personally prefer my jank ass turn based Pokemon, but I’m glad to see everyone getting excited about a fresh IP!

Maybe let’s not suck about this and just, I don’t know, not play it and stop complaining if you dont like it/think it’s too derivative? This is Digimon/Monster Rancher/Pokemon type beef guys, we squashed this shit 30 years ago. This is SIGNIFICANTLY more removed from Pokemon than those two aforementioned IPs.

  10. this is just gonna turn out like monster hunter, the way i see it, its just parody version of pokemon, even if they did found something copied, would’t they be against palworld and Microsoft since its on pc and game pass? either way if they really want to take down the game they might as well collab with the devs, but we all know how poke fans are so butthurt. for those of you sending threats to palworld you need to start showering im pokemon fan my self but this is no way to treat other company whos trying to give the world better games and palworld just did everything we asked for as pokefans, if you cant see that both ways. your literally nerd for pokemon and you probably only play pokemon since you were born. grow up
