Display shipment data suggests Nintendo would make 10M+ Switch 2’s in initial FY

Bloomberg reporter Takashi Mochizuki is reporting that based on supply chain data and display shipment data Nintendo could easily produce over ten million Nintendo Switch 2 systems in the initial fiscal year. This clashes with the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 launches which saw both Sony and Microsoft struggle to get enough consoles into shops, making them incredibly hard to come by during the launch period unless they were pre-ordered. Nintendo has yet to announce a successor to the popular Nintendo Switch console.

  1. I hope they’re right that this will be easier to find. 10 million doesn’t necessarily sound like enough to me given I expect demand for this console to be potentially colossal. I’ll certainly be taking nothing for granted in my attempts to get my hands on one.

    1. Depends on launch timing. 10M-15M is not crazy for a full year, but if it launches in the fall the first “Fiscal Year” is only through March, so like half a calendar year on shelves.

  2. The demand will depend a lot on how big an upgrade this is. If it’s an Apple-style “We made the screen a little bigger and the case a little thinner” deal, then it’ll probably sell just a little better than the current Switch OLED. If it’s more like a whole new console with some amazing launch titles that’ll show off its significant new capabilities, then it might fly off the shelves like the original Switch did.
