The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is happening soon as the nominees for the various categories this year have been announced. Nintendo has two games prepped for the coveted Game of the Year award and they are the stunning The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is up for six nominations and they are Best Game, Audio Achievement, Game Design, Music, Narrative, and Technical Achievement. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is up for four and they are Best Game, Family, Animation, and Multiplayer. The 20th BAFTA Games Awards will be taking place on 11th April 2024 at 7pm UK time / 11am PT.

And they’ll both lose to Baldurs Gate 3, as they should. Excellent games both, but BG3 is a cathedral level work of art. Not even the best Mario and Zelda titles in years can hope to have that level of polish and detail.

BG3 diehards really love to overstate that game’s achievements. I have a feeling that had it not released soon after the crap fest of Diablo IV, BG3 would’ve been received quite a bit differently.
It’s really nothing new for the genre. Good game no doubt. Act 2 and 3 really drag it down though.
