Nintendo ranks 6th in Metacritic’s 14th annual game publisher rankings

Metacritic has published its publisher rankings for major game companies during 2023 and Nintendo has achieved sixth place this year. According to Metacritic, the Kyoto-based company had four “great” games released last year which include Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo placed twelfth on Metacritic’s annual game publisher rankings in 2022. If you wondering who achieved the top place, then it was Capcom. Here’s what the site had to say about Nintendo’s inclusion:

“Placing yet again in our top 10, Nintendo released more titles than any other publisher on this year’s list. But despite the fact that four of those titles scored 90 or higher—easily the best among all publishers this year—Nintendo was prevented from ranking even higher by its relatively low 73% success rate, which was the lowest among all publishers cracking our top 10.”

  1. Capcom right now are in a great place, I’m not surprised they win this. Nintendo though have another year where they pumped out the most games that will be remembered years from now. Nintendo’s back catalogue is easily the best of any publisher, and that gap is still growing (though this year is set to be a quiet one, next year is likely to be another great year for Nintendo)

  2. Sixth place? Who could have posibly beat Nintendo?

    This is perfectly acceptable.

  3. I’m fine with capcom at the top but the 2-5 placements don’t make sense. They released only a few games that were just “good” ranking with one or zero great games and the highest ranking game in each one being under 90…

    1. Unfortunately, it isn’t just about top games, if you look at the metrics used, it also includes games with lower ratings. While Nintendo holds some great IP’s, they pump out a lot of trash every year, too. Like a LOT of it. Like an unbelievable amount.
