Did You Know Gaming? takes a look at cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5 game

You may recall that, last month, a Crash Bandicoot 4 character designer and illustrator spoke of “the Crash 5 that never was”. There weren’t any further details about the game itself, but it heavily implied that a Crash Bandicoot 5 was in the works, only to be cancelled at some point during the game’s development.

Well, thanks to Did You Know Gaming in a new video posted today, we now have more information. The cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5 was going to be a crossover game with Spyro the Dragon, where Uka Uka would gain access to an inter-dimensional portal to travel to Spyro’s universe, use magic on the Dragon Elders and threaten both Spyro and Crash’s worlds. Crash and Coco would come and go from Spyro’s world to foil Uka Uka’s plans, while simultaneously meeting Spyro and restoring the Dragon Elders.

As for playable characters, Nina, Cortex and Coco were all considered. Meanwhile, there were discussions of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro being playable together. For example, there was one idea being passed around of Crash riding on Spyro’s back. As for the game as a whole, other ideas were being considered, such as the collecting of dragon feathers, the return of Realms from the original Spyro game, and more gender-swapped alternate universe characters similar to the ones in Crash 4.

Unfortunately, the game never happened. Development for Crash 5 lasted only a few months from summer to November 2020, and most of it involved concept art and pre-production early demo environments. Activision then cancelled the game due to Crash 4 not meeting sales expectations and Activision’s desire to shift from single-player games with large budgets. You can see Did You Know Gaming’s video about the matter down below.

  1. As neat as another Crash & Spyro crossover would have been, it should have been just that; a separate individual crossover, not the focus and selling point of a Crash 5.

  2. TFB really dropped the ball with IAT. Extremely grueling to 100% (or 106%) due to very bad game design and, most of all, a Crash game where Crash barely has something to do with the plot due to the stupid decision of making “the female cast as important as the male cast” (even though the game is called CRASH Bandicoot).

  3. I’m Nonya Business! I fake think Crash is mid to troll/engage bait! I pretend to be a Nintendo fan but make character wars about every character in gaming because I’m jealous of Rosalina! I harass people if they don’t give me Waluigi!

  4. geometry dash online is a challenging and captivating rhythm-based platformer that combines fast-paced action with a strong emphasis on time and precision. It is a part of the popular Geometry Dash series, which has gained a substantial following due to its engaging gameplay and unique level designs.
