The head of the Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka, has participated in a new interview and stated that the much requested Sonic Adventure 3 is not being worked on. Iizuka wouldn’t elaborate on the reasons why they haven’t pursued development on the eagerly awaited game. He just said that the team doesn’t have plans for it yet and reiterated that he would eventually love to make the third game in the Adventure series, which started life on the SEGA Dreamcast. He also said that the company also has no plans to make a standalone Chao Garden game, as he feels that it is part of the Sonic Adventure experience.
“When we talk about Chao Garden specifically, I know everyone’s like ‘I want Chao Garden, I want Chao Garden’,” Iizuka replied (via an interpreter). “But Chao Garden is a piece… it’s part of the whole Sonic Adventure series of games.”
“It’s not a standalone game, it’s integrated into the whole Adventure series gameplay, so we can’t just break it off and make it a thing. And so it’s like, alright, well, if you’re asking for Chao Garden and Adventure 3, then that’s pretty much asking for Adventure 3.
“I think at some time I’d like to say ‘hey, yeah, we’re making Adventure 3’, but we don’t have plans for that yet. It’s just one of those things that if, if the stars align and it can all happen, then yeah, we’d love to make it.”

I really don’t get their logic on this.
Chao garden were part of the excellent Sonic Advance trilogy developed by dimps so it is not that exclusive to the adventure series at all…smh
Not to mention Sonic Team already made “Nakayoshi_Chao!”, a standalone Chao Garden game for Japanese flip phones, in 2002.
You’d have to be dumb to hate Dimps.
Guess who hates Dimps and is dumb?
Hints: comments here and has the number 27.
Yeah, and that chao garden connected to the Adventure games, your point?
Honestly, the biggest defining feature of the other two Sonic Adventure games is the Chao Garden- it makes sense not to call any particular game SA3 without it, even if those games share other elements of the Adventure games (multiple story perspectives of Sonic ’06, for example).
Still…
I would argue that the defining feature of the Adventure games is the variety in gameplay styles, with shoot-em-up and treasure hunting levels included in both games (and also kart driving).
I would ask if they have no plans for adding Sally Acorn in a new Sonic game either, but at this point, it goes without saying. As usual, the Sonic franchise is useless to me.
frankly it is useless for a lot of people.
At least just put out ports of DX & 2 Battle on Switch.. geez…
Sally Acorn is not a game character, she was created by DiC for the English cartoons.
Ok so keep losing money
Sonic team boss: “No, we don’t like money. Why do you ask?”
I wish one of those was optional.
You’ll make bad sonic games but not the sonic adventure series which completely made sonic more completely popular then what he already was and lose money….. It’s just like Nintendo saying we won’t make tears of a kingdom or pokemon stopping at snap lol
he should fix the voices and story writing, then worry about sa3 lol
As much as it sucks to hear, I am fine with it: as good as frontiers was, I still don’t think Sonic team is fully ready to give us Sonic adventure 3 yet.
We need them to practice a little more with and perfect the adventure formula
Then get off your buttkicku Sonic Team and start plannin’!
I don’t think current Sonic Team could do it justice anyway.
SA3 would have to improve upon the older games, not just copy them as they were. They haven’t exactly aged gloriously.
And considering the kind of quality Frontiers was… yeah, that’s pretty doubtful.
They really need to up their game. And I think that’s part of why they’re not doing it. SA3 releasing, and potentially being a catastrophic failure, would do so much damage to the Sonic brand; the same brand that makes pretty easy money with below average products.
Might as well just continue the route that’s less risky. It’s not like the fanboys have high standards.
The chao garden was ultimately what got me into playing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, my first Sonic game in all the series, so it sucks to see it wasn’t a thing anywhere else all these years
