Video: Nintendo officially announces Switch 2, coming this year

Nintendo has officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 and it looks exactly as we thought it would thanks to the leaks which have been buzzing around the web these last few weeks. Nintendo has yet to announce a release date, instead saying that it’s due out later this year. The company used the next Mario Kart game to showcase the console. You can see the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer down below.

  1. Please let there be a pre-order left at my local store. In the middle of moving this week. Go figure this is the stupid week it gets officially announced.

  2. Oof, this is how they reveal it? The leaks really did screw over their PR plans more than likely. System looks good enough but I’ll have to see what the magnetic joy cons are like. I’m wondering how well it they clip in together without any accidental slippage. Overall sleek design though.

      1. I’d actually prefer that. I miss the silly subtitles they used to give them.

Also, because Nintendo considers Tour to be an official, mainline title for the series, calling it Mario Kart 9 might not be on the table.

    1. Nintendo will announce it during the April 2nd edition of Nintendo Direct – Nintendo Switch 2 at a later time.

  3. Lets be really honest here guys.
Compared to the original Switch reveal. This has to be up there with the most disappointing trailers ever.

    1. I feel like the leaks took all the air out of this announcement. Everything they said said was true. So it feels like we all already knew.

I’m ok with this, I wanted a Switch Pro, and this is essentially it.

    2. You’re denying the fact that the trailer is just for a first look presentation. The real meat and potatoes of a new Mario Kart will be presented in 4K DLSS in docked mode.

  4. Nintendo made the correct choice in naming the new console this time. Phew. A simple 2 is better to the masses than the usual Nintendo quirky naming scheme. Also RIP the PS5 in japan (more so now) if the price is no more than 50.000 yen.

  5. Looks and feels so much like a “Pro” version instead of an actual successor. You want a bigger screen, better Joy Cons? Then, here’s a successor that looks almost identical with better Joy Cons, a bigger screen, and probably another track in Mario Kart!

So my speculation I made in the comments in the post above doesn’t seem that far off. I speculated that they would use magnetic technology for gameplay, and in the joy cons to reduce drift issues (for example for a new Mario Kart game). The way the controller is pulled a bit to the side at the end of the trailer makes me even more sure that they will use the magnets for gameplay purposes. It is not called the Nintendo Magnet, though.

    1. Can’t pre-order until the price is announced, IMO. Some cool sound design in this one. Only watched once but I swear I was hearing DK/Jungle sounds.

  8. That was a pretty neat trailer. They could have incorporated the DK Rap. “It’s bigger, faster, and stronger too! It’s the console, the NIntendo Switch 2!”

  9. I’m pretty sure there’s more to this than just a better Switch. Nintendo always likes to surprise with new features. And having all those Nintendo Switch 2 Experience dates for people to try it suggests there’s some new feature “you have to experience to believe it”. Not necessarily I know, lots of tech launches still have people try out new versions that aren’t much different, but something tells me Nintendo has a few tricks up their sleeve as always. A few things in this trailer already seem to be hinting at stuff but disguised as just flashy showing-off-the-system footage. I remember someone saying they were thinking the Joy Cons could be used like a mouse and this Tron-style / mouse-style bit seems to suggest that too. Plus maybe some stuff to do with the magnets and stuff. I’m sure it’s hiding several new quirky features that will innovate gameplay further. That’s Nintendo’s thing and why we love them.
