FromSoftware says they’re not moving away from single-player games

FromSoftware surprised just about everyone during Nintendo’s recent Switch 2 Direct. Not only did they announce Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, but they revealed a brand new Switch 2 exclusive game called The Duskbloods. The Duskbloods is more of a multiplayer game instead of the single-player games that they like to do and has been a major reason behind the company’s recent success.

Fortunately, the company has reassured fans that this multiplayer game is not going to be the norm going forward. Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed in a new video of the Nintendo Creator’s Voice series that “as previously mentioned, this is an online multiplayer title at its core, but this doesn’t mean that we as a company have decided to shift to a more multiplayer-focused direction with titles going forward. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring was also announced, and we still intend to actively develop single-player-focused games such as this that embrace our more traditional style”.

      1. There is an interview in gematsu saying its focus is player vs player with occasional enemies thrown in, and its not an adventure game with multi players.

    1. It’s not a battle royale. It’s different from their single player games, but it is indeed a unique take on a multiplayer game. Ngl, I’m also a little disappointed that it’s not like their other games, but after I read the interview article, it does sound pretty interesting. I’ll give it a chance because I love FromSoft. Nothing they’ve made has ever been bad

      1. It is a BR, just Miyazaki’s take on it. Unfortunately the only flaw to every Soulsborne game is the garbage PvP, only casual hobbyists, influencers/twitch streamers, and griefers/trolls play PvP, especially in Soulsborne titles. Those are gamers, they’re cancer. Save for the very few who are actually helpful/trophy hunting, the mode is an absolute disgusting joke like every MP mode in existence. We gamers want games, not this shallow content.

  1. I was super excited for this game…but now I will never play it because 1) I don’t have, nor do I plan to get, a switch online subscription, and 2) I want to play a single player FromSoft game.
After 10 years, this was the closest thing we’ve gotten to Bloodborne 2 and it’s….disappointing.
