Nintendo says no download codes needed for first-party physical Switch 2 Edition games

There has been a lot of confusion in regards to certain aspects of the Nintendo Switch 2. One of them involves just what physical versions of Switch 2 Edition games will contain. Nintendo UK’s customer support said last week that it will come with a physical cartridge for the original game and a digital download code for the Switch 2 Edition upgrades.

However, there is now some contradicting information. A Nintendo representative has sent a statement to Vooks saying that Nintendo and Nintendo-published Switch 2 Edition games will not have any download codes. Everything will be included in a cartridge. That said, they do note that this may not be the case for other publishers, including third-party companies.

  1. This is good, but not so good for my wallet.
If you are a physical game collector then this is going to be great, but on the other hand some people may benefit more by getting second hand switch games and upgrading instead of paying 60- 70.

  2. I admit that between the empty cartridges that allow you to download the game, the “classic” cartridges, and the Switch 2nd edition, payable or not, it’s a bit confusing!

Nintendo, let’s be clear about this once and for all!!

  3. Except, Nintendo never said Switch 2 Edition Games are Switch 1 games in the box with a download needed. 🤷‍♂️

  4. It’s not contradictory information because that “email from Nintendo UK” last week was fake. Please start doing some proper research on here instead of just posting whatever is doing the rounds on social media

  5. Glad to hear Nintendo first-party titles will still come with everything on the cartridge—just like the good old days! No one wants to deal with extra download codes, especially collectors. While we wait for more Switch 2 news, I’ve been catching up on gaming documentaries and retro content via YouCine TV—a great way to stay entertained in between announcements!
