CD Projekt Red says putting Cyberpunk on cartridge was “The right thing to do”

Jan Rosner, the VP of business development at CD Projekt Red, has been chatting about Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch 2. One thing that you all will have noticed is the amount of third party developers taking the admittedly cheap option and making their games Key-Cards. Rosner said in interview that the decision to have Cyberpunk on a cartridge was an easy one, as they simply felt it was the right thing to do.

“It’s not a matter of getting away with something,” Rosner argues. “Nintendo at physical retail is still strong, and retail is, in general, not going anywhere. I don’t think we’ll soon experience a reality where we’re just having all games digital.

“But again, it’s especially important for the Nintendo audience. We maybe could have got away with it, but is there a point? The right thing to do was to have it out on the cartridge with a plug and play experience.”

In advice to other studios, he adds: “Do not underestimate the physical edition. It’s not going anywhere and Nintendo players are very appreciative of physical editions that are done right.”

    1. Please stop spamming the site. You are one strange dude. Every comment from these personas is coming from your ip address. It’s embarrassing.

        1. Sadly he’s using a VPN so his IP keeps changing after being banned. He writes a lot of comments all in a frenzy and all purporting to be different people. He’s also been harassing SonicGalaxy27. I’ll contact WP and find a suitable solution 😊

  1. Anonymous Skywalker

I mean this is good and I might actually pick up the Switch 2 version despite having the PC version. Wish more devs chose cartridge instead of “cartridge” aka game key card.

  2. But what will happen the day a third-party game exceeds the 64 GB limit on cartridge? What will they do? Well, either a key card or digital… so, you know, CD Projekt ^^’

    1. Well the point being that the more data on the cartridge, the less the consumer has to sacrifice in console storage or express cards, which are relatively new, expensive, and might be hard to come by regularly. Same as a disc based game that still requires some data to be downloaded.

      1. I was saying the same thing actually ^^I was just being ironic because I don’t believe the nice words from CD Projekt saying that it will only use cartridges..

  3. Already played the base game, might purchase Cyberpunk for the Nintendo Switch 2 just for the Phantom Liberty expansion.
