Nintendo has recently updated its detachable dual-screen patent

The patent from Nintendo which was floating around in 2023 showing a detachable second screen for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been updated by Nintendo accompanied by new images. While Nintendo naturally applies for a number of patents most of them remain unused. However, it is interesting that they have updated this particular one. The patient shows the two halves of the screen connected by something similar to the Joy-Con connector, but with an included hinge mechanism. It also shows the top half having its own shoulder buttons. Whether anything comes of the particular patent remains to be seen.

    1. Imagine using a Switch one attached on top so we can play DS and 3DS games portable on Switch 2… i still have my Oled, and was thinking about this :v

  1. Attaching something to the switch while in handheld mode to make it dual screens for ds or new game play sounds amazing!

    1. USB port on the top makes sense when your playing table top and want to charge, or table top and want to use the camera as well.

  2. We all see it, that’s a DS. The interesting thing is that AFAIK Nintendo has swore up and down that the top USB-C port doesn’t output video. I wonder, were they lying about that, could they push a software update to make it push video, (could I have just misremembered)? Exciting times.

  3. The Switch 2 turning into a super 3ds would be cool. Now with that device they just have to add the DS n 3Ds online

  4. But where’s the games for the current console? Aside from the very few first party games, I feel bad for 3rd party companies. Seems like outside of Bananza and Mario Kart, there’s not really any reason to buy the console with how bad other games have done on the platform.
