New details emerge for the rumoured Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake

The rumour that Ubisoft has been working on a remake of the entertaining Assassin’s Creed Black Flag video game have been circulating for quite some time now. Today, Jeux Vidéo Magazine has published some new information on the extent of the changes, including the news that Ubisoft is adding in content which was originally cut from the original Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game. Those expecting a graphical tour de force should tamper their expectations as it’s apparently more of a faithful reimagining.

  • The remake removes the modern day and replaces them with more content in Edward’s pirate era (a few extra hours compared to the original)
  • Gameplay will shift closer to the RPG-style of newer AC games
  • Loot and gear stats for Edward
  • Inventory systems and combat leaning toward the RPG style rather than the choreographed combat of the original
  • No loading screens when moving between ship and land
  • Map is not bigger, but islands will be filled with more activities and side content
  • Expected to include cut content from the original, like parts of Mary Read’s storyline that were dropped in 2013
  • It’s not on the same “big budget remake” level as Resident Evil 2 or Silent Hill 2, but more of a faithful reimagining with updates
  • Uses Ubisoft’s new Anvil Pipeline engine (same as AC Shadows)
  • Release window: currently targeted for early 2026 (likely March), though some sources think it could slip to late 2026.
  • They are reusing some assets from Skull & Bones to cut costs, but it won’t be obvious to players.

Don’t worry, it will be PRETTY obvious.

Also Ubisoft getting more and more desperate.

  2. I mean, i feel bad for the legacy that Ubisoft had at one point, maybe on the top 3 of third party developers until the late 2010s, AC Black Flag was the last one in witch they really cared for the Creed story.

On one hand this feels like a cash grab and quick reusing of assets to try to bring something meaningful. On the other, younger generation will be able to enjoy a great story and plot.

  3. Before I dogpile on Ubislop I will have to see what the game looks like and how it runs before I decide if I want to skip or buying it which would be kinda a rarity since I’m not buying anything from them. That being said, I don’t know how I feel about some of changes/direction but I am at least interested.

  4. No thank you. Ubisoft sponsors Hasan Piker, don’t want anything to do with that. These companies are disgusting all of them.

  5. Ubisoft is disgusting for sponsoring a progressive twitch player? Woweee. Can’t imagine anything worse than sponsoring someone who thinks the Civil rights act was a positive.
