Metroid Prime 4 motorbike details emerge

In the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Samus acquires a motorbike called the Vi-O-La equipped with advanced features for her to traverse large areas on, saving time with a fun mechanic. Samus will use the motorcycle to get across Viewros at speed. Nintendo has revealed some additional details about the Vi-O-La motorbike on their official website giving us a better understanding of its potential and onboard technology.

“This vehicle was invented by the Lamorn, a space race that once existed on Viewros. Riding the Vi-O-La allows for swift travel across the vast expanses of the unknown planet Viewros. In addition, special actions can be used while riding to combat enemies and destroy ores scattered across the surface, allowing you to explore uncharted territory.”

  • Boost: Temporarily boosts your speed, knocking enemies back or shattering ore.
  • Power Slide: Sliding Vi-O-La sideways while boosting, known as a “Power Slide,” will send enemies, ore, and other targets flying.
  • Projectile: Fire a projectile that tracks your target. The projectile can lock on to up to five enemies at once, attacking them and then returning like a boomerang.

“Summon Vi-O-La at any time within the available area. Dismounting Vi-O-La will return you to Samus’ perspective and resume your exploration.”

“To return alive from the unknown planet to which she was transported, Samus will use her newly acquired “psychic abilities” and Vi-O-La to clear her way.”

  1. I already translated this off the Japanese website, which has been there since the direct, so disappointed as I thought this was an official English source that would go into more detail on stuff like the “ores”.

  2. “equipped with advanced features for her to traverse large areas on, saving time with a fun mechanic.”
In other words, it solves a problem that was invented to justify it.

  3. Metroid should be feel claustrophobic, tight. this openness goes against the way the games historically work. maps separated by Elevators, that did not have anything bad. not all games have to be Breath of the wild. after so many tries and time, I’m worried that the developers and directors don’t have a clear vision for the game.

    1. I think there is nothing wrong with a different take in a new Metroid game. Not all of Samus’ adventures need to be the same (it would even be unrealistic if every place she travels to were the same closed and secluded environment). So this is a breath of fresh air for the series.

Besides, the open-ended nature of the new game might not be claustrophobic, but it is monophobic (the fear of being alone), like past games in the franchise. However, I tell you that being alone is almost, if not entirely, claustrophobic.

  4. Maybe Nintendo will add samus and her bike to mkw and we can power slide Mario off the track and shoot everyone that gets in the way. I think this would be more suited for samus on a bike.
It must be a Nintendo thing, they just like bikes, we had it in botw and now this, maybe Kirby or Yoshi is next to get 2 wheels in their own game
