Nintendo is planning more Nintendo Pictures animated shorts

Mario as part of Nintendo Pictures

Nintendo has confirmed that the beautiful animated short Close to You was published by Nintendo Pictures. The Kyoto-based company says it has more short films in the works and that they will “continue to explore new creative possibilities” when it comes to animated video content. It was previously revealed that Close to You was actually filled with Pikmin which weren’t visible to the naked eye.

“We hope you enjoyed the two “Close to You” videos released on October 7 and 8. The second video is available on Nintendo Today!, a free app available on your smart device. These are the first short films created by Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd. Nintendo Pictures will continue to explore new creative possibilities through video content.”

  1. This is probably one of my favorite announcement they made this year, Nintendo’s potential in the animated industry is enormous, can you imagine Nintendo movies directed exclusively by Nintendo artists?

      1. They should let TMS Entertainment and others like Bones and Sunrise make anime for them for Zelda, Fire Emblem, even Mario.

  2. The Pikmin were too large and not to scale at all and they are removing all ways to watch the clip outside of the mobile act. They don’t want the world to see it or are passionate about it. It’s to make more people download a app and that’s all it is

  3. If most, if not, all of their 3D animations are gonna have pixar-like style, then that would be too dissapointing. I wasn’t really impressed or interested on their short animation video, it looked generic, and for a dev company known for their variety in visual styles for their games, I hoped better than what they shown.
