Famed video game leaker NateTheHate was asked by a fan whether he had heard any new news about the long-awaited Final Fantasy IX Remake which hasn’t been properly acknowledged by Square Enix. He says he has no information to share regarding Final Fantasy IX Remake and that he believes the project is likely on ice and that it is unknown whether Square Enix will return to it.
“Have no new information to share. For now, I’d assume the game is on ice & the unknown is whether SqEx will return to it or not.”
So, not even rumors now. Just pure speculation.
Maybe taking cues from Nintendo, just sit on completed remakes until there’s a big gap in the pipeline

Where’s Kingdom Hearts 4? This console generation is near done. 2027 will be FF7 part 3’s year so is the game canceled? PS6 game? Shareholders need to sue or pull out. Square has to be sold hopefully Nintendo buys them, the Nintendo Saudi money will cover it.
I’ve only been saying that FF7 Pt.3 was going to come out for PS6 for years lol KH4 is also years away.
FF7 Remake was 2020. Rebirth was 2024, and this final part won’t come out any time before 2027. And the new consoles are rumored to be 2026.
And just in case you aren’t convinced, Nomura is the director of the FF7 Remake, he was co-director of rebirth and is also the director of KH4. That man is single handedly pushing most of their games at SE. He currently has his hands on FF7: Remake intergrade (the Switch 2 and Xbox port) that’s releasing in 2026.
Again. You won’t see a final version of FF7 with all the parts any time before 2028. KH4, maybe you’ll see around launch or launch window of the PS6/twin sequels.
Crazy to think that people gave Kingdom Hearts 3 so much grief, and now the hiatus for KH4 is only two months shy between DDD and KH3.
Yeah the awful story and wait then to make matters worse DLC to fix the story that costed like $50 almost the price of the game that honestly made the story go from bad to mid only to try and hype for a sequel. The wait hurt it and Nomura’s issues and claims it would be the darkest which it wasn’t then taking his frustrations of losing VS13 on KH3 did they help either. Delays of Missing Link now cancellation have people concerned given they said it was looking great same as they now say for 4 even worse KH4 was shown in 2022 with gameplay leading people to think it was closer to release maybe 2 years away. Even worse KH4 was shown before FF7 Rebirth yet Rebirth released first and now seemingly the next FF7 game will release before KH4 causing more unease within that fandom. According to Nomura development of KH3 DLC and KH4 was around the same time then fully in 2019 now we are approaching near 7 years even worse no in between games like they used to release such as BBS or 358 even better a remake of Dark Road and Union X would be welcome to better understand the story and add cutscenes to important games. Thinking back now realize Missing Link was shown to be important to KH4’s story now that game is cancelled even more concern for where KH4 will go add on Nomura nearing retirement and then the series taking way too long between installments. The KH fandom will just disappear growing tired of this and there goes another IP meanwhile FF has had games releasing back to back not living up to expectations.
Now that you put it that way, holy shit, it’s really been a while now.
Investors need to sue they have been misled. Sadly I worry we get another CDPR situation that company should be closed after the Cyberpunk debacle and lies. But Square is lying and when FF7R3 flops they will face the music then because none of the other games Dragon Quest 12 and Kingdom Hearts 4 are no where near ready to show not even release the games are not ready to even be shown. This generation is a wake up call do not go woke and do not go millennial they are the worst generation alongside the boomers look entertainment in general they ruined. Square needs to finally get bought out. Bandai Namco even got dragged in this wasting money on Clive which failed to pay off in Tekken 8 now they’re screwed because they listened to Max Dood and Yoshi P who’s full of himself and should be fired same with Harada. Even worse Tekken 8 seems like it will be adding Tifa next making their situation even worse 2 FF characters will upset that crowd even more and not attract the casual market they want.
This is not confirmation, game will probably come out 2026 my opinion. 2027 will be FF7 3 and doesn’t look good given Rebirth flopped as have other FF games add on the Sony exclusivity hurts that game really bad. Square is now relying on ports of recent games but that’s not helping FF16 flopped on PS5 and PC now the Xbox version has flopped harder. They over did it on FF leaving other franchises dormant and weirdly making games people really don’t want like a new western developed game coming next year despite telling investors they will be Japanese and that’s why they sold Eidos off, the next Just Cause was reportedly canceled by them too.
