Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been the best-selling Nintendo Switch game by a large margin and Shigeru Miyamoto isn’t sure whether any Nintendo Switch 2 game could surpass the Mario Kart franchise on the Nintendo Switch 2. It is very early days yet, but Mario Kart World sales have been very impressive so far. Whether Mario Kart World retains its crown with the other huge franchises Nintendo is working on in the future remains to be seen. We might even get another Mario Kart game further down the line on the system.
The Mario Kart series has produced the best-selling software for the past few platform generations and I imagine that pattern will continue on Nintendo Switch 2. Is there any possibility that a title that surpasses the Mario Kart series in terms of unit sales will be released on Nintendo Switch 2?
“Nintendo has always worked with the idea that there are no limits to our efforts. For example, when we tried our hand at movies with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, its success was compared to the box office revenues of other movies. However, even if the movie topped the rankings, we would think there was more room for growth. My latest theme is that there is no ceiling in the world of entertainment. In that sense, there are still many markets around the world that can be expanded through Nintendo Switch. If some Nintendo IP or innovation is widely accepted by consumers as something new and never before seen, the numbers could potentially reach beyond the boundaries of entertainment. One thing that is interesting about Nintendo is that it’s okay to try anything. On the other hand, even if something like that happens, Mario Kart would probably continue to sell well in that undertaking as well, so it may never be surpassed!”
They weren’t kidding when they say the Mario Kart series is evergreen. Launching the Switch 2 with a new Mario Kart was an easy choice, and making a bundle that made getting the game cheaper was a bonus. Not sure how much they were able to keep restocking the bundle, but I assume it’s pretty high.
Tragic, the game sucks
I would love to know the sales without the inclusion of switch 2 bundle sales. Literally signed up for notifications for regular switch 2 in stock on Amazon and twice they pushed the mario kart version on me. That game is just bad and knew it from the beginning. I am no hater either mario kart deluxe was a very great game.
