Konami says bringing back Metal Gear Solid 4 would be “a real challenge”

Metal Gear Solid series producer Noriaki Okamura has spoken to Japanese publication Real Sound about the beloved video game series and how easy it would be to bring Metal Gear Solid 4 to current consoles. Okamura says that Metal Gear Solid 4 is a complex issue due to the PlayStation 3 hardware and the code that the game was built on. He even went as far as to say that bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 to current platforms “would be a real challenge.”

“The hardware at that time required some very unusual designs to get 3D performance out of the technology available, and MGS4’s code ended up being quite unconventional as well… Bringing it over today seems like it would be a real challenge,” he said.

  1. That’s on Sony for having an awkward system.. The PS2 was slightly awkward to develop for too, which is why earlier games at least ended up looking better on Dreamcast.

  2. The Wii U was an awkward system to develop on yet we get Wii U ports. Sounds like they are too lazy but I’ll choose to “believe” them for the time being.

      1. That’s not true they made games only a lie the Kojimatards and media pushed to defend Kojima who was also an exec at Konami the VP something they ignore. Konami is not solely a games company most Japanese game companies unlike American ones are not solely gaming companies.

  3. Konami is a joke in the industry now. Aside from treating Hideo like trash, and then forbid him from attending the Game Awards, these people have no idea what’s in the best interest of the gaming industry. It isn’t a challenge, you’re just lazy. You already fucked up Metal Gear by dropping Survive, and having the audacity to call that an actual game, and now your selfishness and lazyness is preventing you from porting MGS4? Perhaps stick with making crappy soccer games and Yugioh ports, and let someone else port it.

    1. Konami has had a string of hits and more in development and are having a record year and gave all you Kojima buffs a handy with MGS3:Delta. They really should just kill the series since you’re all ungrateful trogs and focus their efforts on other titles. Kojima’s a genius for sure, but he almost killed the company long before they finally did something about it. Did you forget you got Kiefer Sutherland for a handful of lines of dialogue and all kinds of stupid unnecessary crap in MGSV? Kojima purposefully blew budgets out of selfishness and spite and burned bridges with a lot of good people. He killed P.T. and much more single handedly by acting childish on his exit.

  4. What about Bloody Roar series, Castlevania Lament Of Innocence, Bomberman 64/Generation/Jetters, the Goemon series also Willy Wombat.

  5. Too much of a challenge?! Wow. Someone here said it best when they mentioned MGS:Survive.
If not, then why not an actual remake? Or do they not have the money or the brains to manage that?

  6. To be honest, if they spent all this time since the release of Master Collection Vol. 1 NOT porting MGS4, I’ll be shocked. People have already found ways to run that game on PC. I don’t understand why developers are still so resilient against hiring people who have proved themselves in the modding and emulating world. Their research may be “illegal” but once it’s done there’s no reason why the legal copyright holders can’t utilize the tech.
