UK: Christopher Dring says physical sales of Resident Evil Requiem on Nintendo Switch 2 haven’t done big numbers

UK journalist Christopher Dring has stated that physical sales of Resident Evil Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United Kingdom haven’t done huge numbers. He went on to say that Resident Evil Requiem did sell more copies in its first week on Nintendo Switch 2 than Mario Tennis Fever. He says sales are broadly the same as what Cyberpunk 2077 did last year. He says that third party physical games on the Nintendo Switch 2 have been quite slow in the UK. The United Kingdom is the largest video game market in Europe, though it it’s likely that a lot of people opted for digital.

I’ve been fascinated to see how Resident Evil Requiem would fare on Switch 2. UK physical data is in, and it hasn’t done huge numbers on Switch 2. But it did more in its first week than Mario Tennis Fever. It’s broadly the same as what Cyberpunk 2077 did last year (physical)

  1. Maybe because those aren’t actual physical cartridges, they are pseudo-physical aka waste of plastic.

    1. Pretty much this. Any 3rd party title on a key is just better to get on ps5(or even original Switch), not to mention better performance.

  2. Yeah that’s Sony land but ignoring the media spins I’m curious does this game meet Capcom sales expectations or is it added to their long list of flops Dragons Dogma 2, Dead Rising Remake, Exoprimal, Path Of The Goddess, Monster Hunter Wilds, and fighting game collections? Resident Evil 8 and 4 Remake met expectations. Street Fighter 6 they wanted 10 million sales over timebso not sure if they’re happy or not with where it’s at or DLC sales.

    1. I’m pretty sure it met their sales figures. Pre orders sold out everywhere in America. I cant remember the last game to do it.

  3. Will never buy a Game-Key Card. These Companies are cheaping out, making games more expensive than they’ve ever been. Watch Companies say once again, Oh, the audience on Nintendo Platforms don’t want our games. There are still a good amount of Nintendo Users that want physical and all of you should do. There are morons on Social Media that brag about buying key cards for attention because subconsciously they think its cool to go against the grain and stick it to people when in reality they are just stupid. I would have bought a physical Resident Evil 9 on Switch, I got it for free on PC Since I couldn’t.

  4. Captain Blaze The Meow Meow

I too get my PC games for free or for discount’s so good that they are basically free. If they want us to pay premium prices for 3rd party games on Nintendo that often suffer from lower specs among many other things, it has to be physical for me.

  5. But you are all ridiculous with your contradictions there…

Are you going to make me believe that you bought Resident Evil Requiem on PC… physically??

You have lost all credibility there.

    1. Reply to Sofiona.

That’s so true, Everyone complaining about key cards always has a weak point in there argument like “how I will wait for the ps5 version to go on sale” when the disc contains nothing on it like a game key card.

    2. StopDefendingGarbadge

Theres a Difference between a $70 to $80 Fake Cartridge and a Digital Games During a 90% to $95 Steam Sell. Also You can get games that are $70 and $80 on Nintendo for as low as $5 furring Steam sells or as multiple people have already said, Free if so wanted. Key Cards are worse than Download Only titles. I love how you Nintendrones are like but I can resell them. Have you ever sold games especially 3rd party games to a shop? You get nothing even for fully physical games. Good luck with selling your worthless key cards.

      1. Why is everyone comparing PC and Console gaming? They are both great. PC will obviously run switch 2 games better, but not only are most PC’s that are more powerful the switch 2 more expensive then the switch 2, but the switch 2 is a handheld, games wont run as well on a handheld due to keeping the price low and the battery life high enough. PC is great for getting games cheap and running the best, but I will always prefer the switch 2 for portability, being cheaper and at least having the option to sell my game. I will defend the switch 2 even if I can see the major disadvantages compared to PC.

    3. No, dude, we’re saying that the main reason we buy on Switch is to own a physical cartridge. If we can’t do that, we’ll buy on the vastly superior platform, PC. I’ve been playing RE9 with significantly higher graphical fidelity on my RTX 4080/7900X3D PC than the Switch 2 is capable of, and with mouse and keyboard, for way better headshots.

If the Switch 2 edition were a real physical cartridge, that may’ve convinced me to go with a far less visually impressive version. So far, the only things I’ve played on my Switch 2 are the Switch 2 updated versions of BOTW, TOTK and some Switch 1 games that ran poorly on the original system. There isn’t a single Switch 2 game on the horizon that I plan on buying, huge letdown. If Metroid Prime 4 were better, that could’ve been the big system-seller for me, but it ended up being a massive dud. I’d regret buying my Switch 2, but it runs Switch 1 games better, so I just treat it like a “Switch Pro.” I’d continue to buy loads of games on Switch cartridges instead of PC if they were actual cartridges and not physical licenses reliant on servers.

So no, we’re not contradicting ourselves and we haven’t “lost all credibility,” you just don’t understand the subject.

  6. This is UK, why is everyone blaming key cards for just UK? This sold well in america and japan, and I bet all regions would have sold more if it was on the cartridge. But at the same time, most games on every console are key card due to how much space you still need to download for every ps5 and xbox game. This game probally didn’t appeal that much to the UK, so this makes sense.

    1. MrFrost64 cracks me up. Calls people contradictory but then makes claims that most ps5 games arent on disc. Almost all major releases (90%+ even more if you exclude ubislop and microslop) are fully playable from disc with no download. Yes, it copies from disc, but this isnt downloading, it’s copying.

  7. On switch 2 the generation pack will likely make up the bulk of the sales, and it’s listed separately as no. 3 in the charts.

  8. on another website it says that the Physical version of RE9 is just 4% of all RE9 ( just that version) but then a little bit below the GENERATION PACK is third in sales, if you add that nintendo does not share the digital download numbers, that the install base of the Switch 2 is still low as it has been less than a year since launch, that is UK above all markets ( nintendo us not strong there) And that he says that it is faring more o less the same as one of the most sold games on the platform so far ( Cyberpunk) I would say is going pretty well for Capcom and that it was a good decision to focus also on the Switch for launch date.

  9. I will never buy a game-key card. I will be skipping 100% of game-key card titles and may sell my Switch 2 at this rate. I am a Nintendo loyalist but they are violating the basic principles and ethos of Nintendo themselves.

  10. I’m not surprised, who in the right mind would want to ruin their experience with playing it on Switch 2? It even looks awful while docked.
