Takaya Imamura concerned about Link speaking in Zelda movie as could ruin the magic

The Legend of Zelda veteran, Takaya Imamura, who no longer works at Nintendo, has taken to social media to voice his concerns about the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie. Replying to an X post about thoughts regarding the movie, Imamura said that the magic of the franchise that fans have rightfully nurtured in their hearts could fade away slightly when Link inevitably speaks. This echoes concerns that were rife on social media about the upcoming movie, but we will just have to hold tight until 2027.

“I’m a little worried that the moment Link speaks, the ‘magic of Zelda’ that everyone has nurtured in their hearts might suddenly fade away.”

      1. Ignore him, he tries ragebaiting people with political trash which sparks a fight in the comment section. He does this with every persona article.

      2. Dont forget Mic. The Super Mario deodorant is supposed to go on every morning, not once oer month.

  1. I like that link never talks because you can almost picture being in his shoes. But like it’s a movie, you aren’t really connected to link since you aren’t controlling him. I am fine if link talks since it’s a movie.

    1. If they cared about the magic, some of the modern story telling has been very weak and Echo’s of Wisdom changed the name of The Triforce to The Prime Energy gameplay for Echos was great though after the update. Story was not memorable at all though.

    1. I hope it is minimal. It is a different medium where we aren’t playing as him. Though it would be weird if he was a wise-ass all of a sudden with a bunch of generic quips.

  2. Daniel Locker Worthington

It would be funny for a little bit that when Link opened his mouth to say something, someone or something would interrupt him.

  3. Thing is, when it comes to this.. it’s a no win situation in that you can’t and won’t please everybody. If he doesn’t speak there are those who are going to be annoyed by that and then on the other side of things, if he does speak, no matter how little, or how much, the moment that he does there are people who are just going to hate it automatically. No matter which way it goes social media is going to go off their rocker inevitably when the time comes and then a plethora of YouTube video think pieces will follow. There’s no avoiding it. It’s only a matter of time.

  4. Link spoke in the cartoon from the 1980’s and many people disliked the cartoon and the way his character was portrayed. Thankfully it didn’t prevent people from loving future games or ruin the franchise. If the dialogue and story are good in the movie then it’ll be fine for Link to speak.

  5. It will be dumb if he doesn’t talk. It’s already dumb that he doesn’t speak already. I love the zelda games for the puzzle solving, and exploring Hyrule. I don’t really care if characters talk or not, but I think it’s stupid if they say nothing. It would not ruin zelda for me if he spoke, there’s no magic in not speaking. The magic is in the story and gameplay, and always will be.

  6. Dumb argument. Not only Zelda is much more than its protagonist but we finally reached the point where silent protagonists are actually a detriment to storytelling. Age of Calamity was the biggest example, with every time Link was onscreen, the dialogue and characterization simply stopped. Plus, Link evolved too much to be considered a “self-insert” character anymore – he clearly has defined personality traits and it’s his own person.

People really need to let go of their 90s mentality. It’s gone. It’s not coming back.

    1. It’s hilarious how genuinely out of touch you are.
Pretty much the entirety of the gaming fandom recently has been pushing back against forced voice acting in games, against pointless, cringe dialogue that adds literally nothing to games in the first place. It’s one of the few times almost the entire gaming landscape have come together to decry something, and the message has been heard.

Link has been a blank-slate since the beginning, and will always BE a blank-slate. A live-action movie (that will likely flop) won’t change the games in any way whatsoever. Nintendo aren’t going to change Link no matter how much you cope.

The true gamers have spoken, and you tourists like you are laughably irrelevant. Cope.

      1. Stopped reading at “Cope”. If you think Link is a blank slate, then you are clearly not a Zelda fan. Nuff said.

And literally nothing you said ever happened or will happen. No “forced voice acting” was being pushed back against, no “pointless, cringe dialogue” and, least of all, the movie won’t even be a flop. Take your own advice and cope and seethe yourself.

      2. Cope and seethe, please brush your teeth and take a bath, I can smell your weed and cheeto dust through my screen. I can give you a therapy hotline if it will help you.

  7. Will it make money like crazy? Yes, sadly. Will it be good? Doubtful when you look at all the video game adaptations, no matter if movie or tv series. And it sucks, because I want to like them, but unlike other people, I can’t just plug my brain out and later say “But it was a movie for kids,” which is the dumbest argument one could come up to defend those movies.
