Cartoon Base is reporting that the sublimely animated Super Mario Galaxy Movie has now made over $500 million in theatres worldwide. Variety reports that earnings in the United States should reach $308 million by Sunday, which is quite some achievement. Cartoon Base also reports that the budget for the film was $110 million, so it has made a fair bit of cash for both Nintendo and Illumination.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has passed $500M globally

Just got back from seeing it. Very fun film! One of the cameos got me SO hyped!
😊
I really enjoy the film. Did you see it Sickr?
Not yet, I haven’t had the time. Glad to hear you are all enjoying it 😊
It’s a very good film. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, people complained about the pacing being breakneck but, actually, that was the best part since things happen without getting tiring. Plus I like the supposed direction the next movie is going to take.
So it already surpassed sonic 3 and by definition both mario films have outgrossed the three sonic movies.
Of course. Mario always had the bigger appeal both in Japan and overseas.
I liked all three Sonic movies but, kinda frankly, it started to get too formulaic now. Plus they don’t seem to get the hint the human characters are not at all appreciated and don’t even much of a reason to be around anymore. It’s good we won’t get any more Rachel in Sonic 4 but it’s getting increasingly harder to justify Tom and Maddie being around. Although they’ll probably make it so they’ll give Sonic romantic advice in order to woo Amy or something, since it’s apparently the new direction they’re taking with them nowadays (Frontiers coming to mind).
Who’s Rachel? I can’t remember some details about those movies.
Maddie’s sister that spends the whole of the first movie trying to convince her to divorce Tom, has a subplot involving a fake marriage in the second that takes way more time than it should and, in the third movie, appears as a hologram disguise for Maddie that Tails projected.
Basically a plain unlikable character that has no reason at all existing and it doesn’t even have the “love to hate” approach.
Jeez, then i fall asleep during the movies, hahaha.
Can’t blame you since she’s so hateable. If it helps, her daughter (Jojo) is the one who gives Sonic his trademark red shoes in the first movie.
Anyway, although she’s the prime example of human character that adds nothing, she’s far from being the only one. As I said, it’s becoming harder to justify even Tom and Maddie being present at all. I don’t see Com. Walters returning since the GUN plot was resolved in Sonic 3 and even Agent Stone has nothing going for him anymore since his arc was also finished in Sonic 3.
I find Sonic’s voice actor annoying as hell and. I only went to the cinema because of my nephews and don’t have any plans to let them freaking torture me with the fourth one.
The only human character that i liked was Neal McDonough in the first one, that man deserved an oscar for his interaction when he got introduced to Jim carrey’s eggman, IMO the most hilarious part of these movies, lol.
I can’t say much of Sonic’s VA because, as I’m Brazilian, the Brazilian dub is very good and it’s Sonic’s traditional dubbed voice. So voice acting isn’t a problem for me.
As for the fourth movie, I’m divided. Sonic 3 I went to my friends at the debut and had a very good time. But, from what I’m seeing of Sonic’s current direction, I’m a bit doubtful of how Sonic 4 will measure up. On one hand, Amy and Metal Sonic are classic characters I like enough. On the other hand, however, I strongly dislike what Sega is doing to Amy ever since Frontiers and something tells me that the fourth movie will have a romantic (sub)plot of Sonic being a teenager in love (since the movies love to emphasize that Sonic “is a kid” and “is still growing up”) and Tom & Maddie there to give him romantic advice of how to get together with Amy. Won’t go to the movies on the debut, at the very least.
Romantic plots may ruin yhe experience, regular show and adventure time weren’t the same when the creators focused heavily on that.
If Nintendo is smart (heh) they’d ignore the fanboys shipping pleas and don’t make the Mario/peach affair the main focus going on.
I don’t like romance thrown for the sake of romance. It’s a big reason why Bowser lost a lot of his villainous agency by focusing on “kidnapping Peach because he wants to marry Peach”. It’s a flaw that started on the RPG Mario games and seeped into the mainline series. Although I don’t think Nintendo will ever shake the status quo – they had the perfect chance to do so in Odyssey and they didn’t.
Thing is, I can’t say the same of Sonic. They already changed Amy from an excitable young girl, who is a Sonic fangirl but, even then, knew how to be emphatic and compassionate to this bland wise girl who might not even like Sonic at all and attacks with tarot cards. People talked a lot of shit towards Peach in the movies but you can see that, for all her badassery, she clearly thinks highly of Mario and they have an equal dynamic on their relationship.
The new movie is absolutely horrible and… I really loved it.
But even I must admit I’d like to see new directors and writers next time.
I actually saw the Mario Galaxy movie with my friends tonight and thought it was pretty fun movie😊
Seems like the only blog reporting about the SMG movie box office is mynintendonews, good job Sickr.
I enjoyed the film and it isn’t as bad as critics say.
I really liked the movie but being used to the first one, I wasn’t as amused by the jokes, but I applaud Illumination’s superb work.
By the way, the profits generated by the movie will not go entirely into Nintendo’s pockets! I think it’s barely 10-15%.
Sickr according to the numbers it already grossed 629 million or so, Mario ate the hedgehog and left no crumbs…smh.

Mario ate him so badly you had to say it three times. Oh and find my pages
It had to chew him three times (one chew per movie).
