Movie leaker V Scooper, who you will remember from earlier who said that both Universal Pictures and Sony are vying to get a Metroid movie under their belt, has commented a little more on what he has heard. He says that Universal Pictures are leaning into horror for their bid for the Metroid movie, but clearly not to the extent that it would receive a R rating or an 18+ rating here in the UK. It has not been made clear what direction Sony Pictures are pursuing for the movie, which remains a rumour for now.
Yes Universal has ideas to make this leaning into horror

That could work
But of course.
That would work well! I also thought metroid was one of the most disturbing nintendo franchises alongside mother/earthbound and eternal darkness.
There’s nothing more disturbing than a cute pink creature that can inhale anything.
|| Good…good, then they would need someone talented enough to pull it off…||
Of course it should.
It should focus on a bounty hunter stuck on an undiscovered planet full of mystery and danger and threats and the only way is to search and find a way to get home and obviously discover some lore and find upgrades etc and the horror will come from the isolation trying to achieve all this.
You know, you wouldn’t want this movie to start all tense and spine chilling and then all of a sudden Jim Carey turns up and tells you what to do and where to go!
This can work but it can’t be rated R.
Ooh, that sounds sick. I love that. Seems like they’ve got good heads on their shoulders if this is what they’re coming to the table with before the film is even greenlit. Love it.
A suspenseful, dialogue-lite film would be amazing
It has to be a film about a lady in an acrobatic space suit of murder that turns into a ball and murders your shins before you’ve hit the ground. Anything less would be an hour and a half tour of CG alien landscapes with Samus twitching out at anything that moves, saying “should I shoot it?!”. And then she does shoot a boss at the end, but it ultimately gets away
Metroid Fusion movie let’s gooooooooooooo!!!
as it should be. also…..go for the R rating. what other nintendo frnachise is going to be able to? its more of an adult series anyway, especilly these days. im not saying it needs to be like Deadpool, but it could be like Logan. dont be afraid to push this this one. go for gold, stay faithful to fans, not just the IP.
If the movie is under an hour and a half, the post credits scene will be Samus in her bikini.
underrated comment
also, side not. i was thinking about the zelda movie, and honestly i hope zelda just is talking over the movie. like link wouldnt have to talk. if zelda just says everying and does all the narration. then link can just make sounds and do all the actions and stuff. thought that might be an easy way to not have link talk. we just skip over any talking. she does all of it. or maybe we hear other poeple, but again she just talks for link as the narrator. she can be like “link thought the goron was a funny, but mighty king” then it just goes back to some gorn king talking about stuff.
let’s goooooooo
yes
It is interesting to see the contrast between Universal and Sony here. Given that Universal is already working with Nintendo on the Mario films and the Super Nintendo World theme parks, they might have the inside track, but Sony’s experience with live-action adaptations like Uncharted and The Last of Us makes them a strong rival. Whether it ends up being live-action or stylized animation, the shift toward a suspenseful tone is exactly what this franchise needs to succeed on the big screen.
