VScooper: Nintendo is pitching Metroid movie with Sony and Universal in close race for the rights

A movie leaker says that Nintendo is currently in the process of pitching a movie based on the beloved Metroid franchise. Naturally there’s a lot of interest from various parties and currently Sony and Universal Pictures are in a close race to obtain the rights for the movie. Both studios are apparently leaning for a live action Metroid movie, but this could all change as it’s at the very early stages.

      1. relax buddy, it’ll be brie larson no doubt lol
and anti woke youtube will have content for a good year and beyond. “METROID MOVIE DOOMED?”
we’ll get like 12 nerdrotic videos on it and 3 more after its released

  1. One problem I see here is that Metroid originally was heavily influenced by Alien, which, as long as it stayed a videogame, didn‘t hurt.
Another problem is that the one thing that makes the games great is the feeling of being alone in space on a hostile planet. Every glimpse of story and every additional character always harmed this feeling. So an entire movie, plus a Samus that might even speak, might just not work that well.

That being said, especially Dread proves that there are some original stories to be told herr, so let‘s see.

  2. I actually would love a live action version only because the atmosphere is supposed to be “being alone on an alien creepy planet.” which I think would be hard to do in a cartoon or animated version.

      1. Well it’s just hard to believe any Nintendo movie strongly cautioning anyone under 13 at this early stage of their film output. But If it’s indeed pg-13 then there’s something to work with

  3. This is not the first time I’ve heard about a Metroid movie, but a live-action one, I don’t really believe it for the simple and good reason that it would most likely be an Alien clone and it would be expensive… I see more of a system like Mario, safer and more profitable.

That said, it will surely also depend on the success (or not) of the Zelda movie…

    1. Lately I’ve been thinking an animated movie with a cool more hand drawn art style would make sense. Since everything is so other worldly with creatures and sci-fi action, would rather go completely animated than try to cgi everything around real actors.

  4. Space movies with a small cast can work. Moon (2009) was very well received. 2001 A Space Odyssey. Project Hail Mary just did great, and that’s just a good actor with a creature. Samus and a Metroid teaming up could work. Just need the right script, director and the right actor, and Nintendo staying out of its own way.

  5. Again Sony? That’s weird. They can’t do a shared universe Zelda at Sony and now this could go either way. Not sure about Pokemon film rights either if Legendary still has it? I feel Sakurai is protecting Kirby thankfully
