The Game Business has said that the Nintendo Switch 2 is now the second fastest-selling Nintendo console in the United Kingdom with the Wii being the top dog. The system is currently tracking similar to how Microsoft’s Xbox One performed when it was released as it also took 52 weeks to hit a million sales in the largest video game market in Europe, the United Kingdom. Thankfully Nintendo has now shifted one million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, so celebrations are in order.

Saying Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox One in the same sentence just feels wrong saying it’s doing the same.
A bunch of people will not buy the system for demanding third party games when they’d run much faster and look better on a mid/high spec PC, or even a now somewhat low’ish spec PS5.
Nintendo needs to keep the first party titles coming without the droughts they are known for after the first few years on the market.
Plus it will help a lot of they release a noticeably more powerful Pro/Super refresh half way through before the next system, otherwise Steam Deck 2 will stomp all over it when hardware pricing returns to normal.
I don’t think the steam deck was that big of competition for Nintendo. It sold about 5 million units, which is a lot for a handheld you can only buy online, but it’s quite small compared to the switches 155 million. The steam deck 2 would probably do well, but not as well as the switch 2 for many reasons, especially when I expect the steam deck 2 to be around 700-800$. While the steam deck is pretty cool, it’s pretty niche.
