There has been a lot of talk from game developers of late about the boons and pitfalls of streaming. With an increasing number of people happy to just watch a playthrough of a game rather than actually playing it. Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has weighed in on this as he was asked on his stance on streaming by Japanese comedian and streamer Eiko Kano. Here’s what Mr. Mikami had to say:
“If viewers watch a playthrough of a game all the way to the end and are satisfied with just that, then it was only that good of a game.”
“Our job is to make games that leave people wanting to clear them with their own hands, even if they’ve watched someone else do it, so keep streaming.”
Interestingly Eiko Kano also asked Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii basically the same thing and also received a similar response from him.

When was the last time he delivered? Vanquish? His Tango works were not it. No one remembers Ghostwire Tokyo or Hi Fi now.
Ehh welcome to 2026 most would rathet watch a video or stream. Most can’t do their job.
It’s not you It’s me. I’ve just gotten older and gained more responsibility with having a daughter. Not having the funds to buy every game I’m interested in means watching longplays.
Gaming is dead thanks to wokeness and idiot sheep. Same with entertainment. I would rather watch IRL streams or Akademiks throwing tantrums even Johnny Somali was hilarious bring him back to the US it would be great him in California.
Games and comics have been woke since the beginning.
Video games are not that important.
What’s important to you if I may ask??
What an idiot. Most people who watch streamers don’t actually play games, or the games they watch. in the case of streamers like pointycrow, you watch because you don’t have time to do everything they have the time to do. Sure I play lots of breath of the wild. But that’s all he plays. I get a new game every week cus I get bored fast and after 200+ hours Im burnt out on playing, but I’ll watch a streamer do some crazy shit. Finnaly he dosent understand that people watch streamers while gaming. They also watch streamers to figure out how to play games or get past a hard/confusing part. Boss battles probably have the most views for streamers for that reason.
