Metacritic can be an essential tool when working out what game to buy when you are in a quandary. The review aggregation site handily has a highest-rated games of all-time list and the sublime Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii has had its score bumped from 97 to 98, placing it as the third highest-rated video game of all-time.

It deserves it, it’s one of the greatest sequels of all time.

Sonic games belong nowhere near a top 10 games list. Maybe a bottom 10, but never top.
I wonder if the new digital exclusive GTA is going to top Ocarina in review scores. I hope that it doesn’t.
I don’t think it gta6 will be a 99. I would predict a 96 or 97.
Oh man. Any site that scores GTA VI with something lower than a 9 will 100% be harassed by weirdo fans.
What determines the placings of games with the same score? Most of that list are 97, so what makes Mario Galaxy 5th place and GTA V 10th place?

I think these are aggregate scores and Metacritic rounds them up. So, for example, perhaps the aggregate score for SMG2 was 97.99, which is why it was above the other 97s, and now it jumped to 98.
The number of reviews.
For example, if Game A has 100 perfect scores and Game B has 101 perfect scores, then Game B will rank higher.
Game B will rank higher, just for the simple fact that that 1 reviewer could rated it a lower score and dropped it down.
Man reviewers really do glaze Nintendo stuff, even the newer Splattoon or Star Fox, even though some of the bosses sound like they were voice acted by people who were half asleep.
“Glaze”? Galaxy 2 is one of the best games of all time, no wonder why critics love these fun simple games.
Also I think it’s funny that your only complaint for Star fox is the bosses sound like they are half asleep. That doesn’t really take away from the overall fun package, does it?
I didn’t realize voice acting was the make or break for a game. Especially when the gameplay is solid.
Maybe stick to Sony consoles of you like watching your games instead of playing them.
Impressive scores.
Weird unnecessary drive-by on Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is one of the best 2D platformers ever made, easy.
And yeah- it’s almost like Nintendo games are consistently some of the best or something because actual care and craftsmanship is put into them? I am so tired of people looking for literally any reason to whine about Nintendo, it’s so performative and forced.
Glad to see Perfect Dark get the recognition it deserves.

I find Galaxy 1 to be superior. I say this as someone who has 100%’d both multiple times each. Honestly, the presentation is so purposefully efficient, in a bad way, in Galaxy 2 that it makes it my least favorite of all 3D Mario’s.
