Nintendo Wii: The Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword Will Feature Brand New Item Upgrade System

Bill Trinen, Product Marketing Manager at Nintendo of America has revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword features a newly implemented system that allows you to upgrade your items. Check out the embedded video for brand new Skyward Sword gameplay footage and some interesting narration from Bill Trinen himself.

“What I can say, though, is what we have done with the game this time that I think a little bit different is…they’ve built an entire upgrade system into the game. So for example, right now you can see that Link has his traditional shield, but he actually will get a lot of different shields in the game.”

“He will start off with a very basic one, and then as you fight enemies, you will recover kind of these treasures or artifacts that you can then use as resources to upgrade your items. And you can do that with your shield, you can do that with the beetle, and some of the other items that you have where you’re able to kind of combine your collection of rupees and your collection of resources and improve the items that you have.”

  1. For the one referring to A link to the past, there where items upgrades, but this upgrades where easy(trow a item to a fairy pond, trow money to other fairy pond, or the sword temper with the smithys) but this sounds different. Like in RPG’s, where you collect monsters drops and use them in quest or as resources for NPC’s to upgrade your items or make new ones. I like how that sound.

    This game’s gonna be epic!!

  2. Yeah this sounds pretty good. =) I hope they don’t go overboard and make it too complex (like a true RPG). I can imagine some sort of customization… who knows?

Argh we all need this game NOW!!! XD

  3. If it’s similar to the Monster Hunter upgrade system (I.E. kill a monster, use its parts to build better armor) then I’m fine with it. If it’s like regular RPG’s where you kill X amount of monsters and your sword automatically does more damage somehow, then I’ll rage.

  4. Oh damn this is wicked news. All I need now is a pre-order to appear which includes the gold WiiMote then I can comfortably sit and wait for the release.

  5. man i love how this game is turning out BTW i noted something really interesting, if u look at the door at 32 seconds, the symbol that its on it, its the same one as in the hylian shield but without the triforce, also that symbol is in red in the shield, could this symbol refer to links bird since the symbol resembles a bird?

  7. That looks awesome. That boss fight was interesting. This game goes far beyond what Ubisoft did with Red Steel 2. And please, no voice acting for Zelda! A lot of different things can go wrong with voice acting, and Zelda has always been about setting the mood with atmosphere and music.

  8. Sounds awesome. Means we should get more items in Dungeons instead of ‘dun dun duuuun! A NEW SHIELD!’ ‘dun dun dun duuuuuun! A longer Hookshot!’

  10. oh nevermind, it’s kinda like a synthesizer in Kingdom Hearts or upgrades in Monster Hunter, instead of throwing your item into a fountain.
