Nintendo Announces Club Nintendo 2012 Platinum And Gold Prizes

Nintendo of America has revealed the prizes that are up for grabs if you’ve collected enough Club Nintendo coins. The Platinum prizes for users who earned 600 Coins or more is a selection of three new posters which feature promotional art from Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Kid Icarus: Uprising. The other platinum gift you can choose is a new set of Super Mario playing cards

Gold prizes, for those of you that have earned 300 coins or more, is a special Nintendo 2013 calendar. Nintendo has yet to reveal the images which are going to be included, but you can be sure there will be plenty of Wii U related images. Gold or Platinum members can also opt to ignore all of the physical prizes and instead receive a free digital download. The games available are Super Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask from the Wii Virtual Console, Metroid II: Return of Samus from the 3DS Virtual Console and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! from DSiWare.

Thanks Justin.

  1. Hell yeah, Metroid II FTW! I’m not from USA, so a digital download instead of fisical prize it’s something unexpected but more than welcome (i tought i couldn’t get anything from my platinum status).

  2. NP… I have Platinum status for the first time this year and I don’t know what I want to claim… I think I might go for TLOZ: Majora’s Mask.

    1. Brosky get the playing cards, you can get LOZ MM on PC and run it on an emulator with advanced OpenGL and extensive texture uprez, basically Zelda Majora’s Mask HD edition. And it’s free.

        1. Uhm, No its not…

If you own a physical copy of a game, and the intended hardware it runs on, then legally you can download and emulator on as many devices you want and “pirate” said game.

          1. What if I downloaded it onto my Wii, basically the copy is supposed to be licensed to me right?

  3. I gotta say, this year’s prizes are a bummer. I own all those games up for download (though it’s cool others have that option). I don’t need more posters. I would never want to open those cards (though I most likely would). With that being said, since I earned Platinum I’m torn between the Skyward Sword poster (I can always take down that no-longer-funny Chuck Norris poster) or the playing cards. At least the cards would make a great conversation starter at parties.

  4. I’m strugglin between the epic Luigi’s Mansion poster or and the fun Mario playing cards. All the prizes are great, but I got the downloads already and the other things arent as interestin. I’m leanin more towards the cards, though cuz I’d never wanna damage that Luigi’s Mansion poster so it’d never see the light of day, haha

    1. If you put up your (i bet awesome) luigis mansion poster I will open the seal on my 3 year old club Nintendo hanafuda cards…..maybe lol

      1. Haha nahh you are soon to enter the “collectors” phase. I say keep that bad boy sealed up and sell it in 10 more years

    2. go for the card if you want collectables im a take the posters buy a couple of cheap $5 poster frames and hang it on my wall. hey at least it’s better than last years crappy nintendo button/pin collection. the best gift they gave was the 2010 smb statue/figurine

    1. It’s an option. And you aren’t spending the 100-150 for it, you get it FREE for totaling 300-600. What if you don’t want the calendar? Well you can get a free game (if you don’t have one of those). Before it was accept the calendar or get nothing. So something > nothing.

It’d be better with more options as I already have all 4 games.

    1. Makes me glad I decided to register nearly my entire library of Wii games this past Christmas. Gold membership eff tee dubs!

  5. I’m platinum but I want the calendar. Can I get it instead? It’s better than playing cards I’ll never use :P

  6. I hate posters and would never hang one in my room because they are simply too cheesy to call a “decoration.” Also what can I do with a pack of cards?…I’ll probably lose them….So I guess free digital download it is :)

  7. The cards look pretty cool, but I wouldn’t want to open them. The posters don’t excite me because I would rip them, and I’m sure they’ll be prizes available for coins eventually. I mean skyward sword was already technically, no interest in luigi’s mansion =/ but kid icarus uprising is awesome so I’d get that one, but I think I’d perfer a game. I own mini’s march again because I got it for free from club nintendo already, so its a toss up between Majora’s mask, which I’ve never played and want to really bad, and a metroid game, which I’d love to play metroid, but I’ve never played a metroid game before actually so I’d want to start from the begining in all honesty, but I’m poor xD. And if I go Majora’s mask, chances are they remake it. So Mertoid it is I guess. And no calendar for me, because I could just make my own using scans of the pics or something.

  8. dang it… I am torn… I want Majora’s Mask and the playing cards… But seeing as I can buy Majora’s Mask I guess I’ll go with the playing cards.. Collector hoarding………. I haven’t opened my free Kid Icarus cards yet…. Very tempted but I am hoping they might be worth something in the future… lol ugh but I want to know what they are… hrmmm….. I miss collecting cards.

  9. I think that Nintendo took so long, because first they said let’s give platinum members some Mario cards. When Mr. Miamoto saw this he said at least give the an option to choose something else then some lame cards. So after a week of debating they give us this crap.

    1. This. It really pisses me off how Nintendo of (insert foreign country) gets shit options/no options. If I were 12, maybe I could be excited over this. Looks like a download for me, only because its the least shitty option. Fxck these gay cards and posters, bring statues back! And match items from japan.

  10. I humbly suggest that Nintendo rename “Gold” and “Platinum” status to “Cardboard” and “Burlap” status to appropriately set expectations.
