Nintendo of America has revealed precisely which games players are purchasing on the North American Wii U eShop. Unsurprisingly New Super Mario Bros U and ZombiU are the two best-sellers, despite costing more to purchase digitally than at retail. Without further ado, here’s the top twenty games on the Wii U eShop.
- New Super Mario Bros U
- ZombiU
- Trine 2: Director’s Cut
- Nano Assault Neo
- Sonic & All-Sars Racing Transformed
- Scribblenauts Unlimited
- Assassin’s Creed III
- Little Inferno
- Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition
- Nintendo Land
- Darksiders II
- Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge
- Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper
- Madden NFL 13
- Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition
- Chasing Aurora
- Just Dance 4
- Rabbids Land
- EA Sports FIFA Soccer 13
Good for them. For now, I’ll buy physical copies of the games as much as possible, until there’s no more retail version of them.
Heck, I’ll hate when digital distribution becomes the only option. :(
Same :(
I didn’t realise that was going to happen? I hope they stick with retail versions as long as possible!
There are some amazing digital games out there but as long as there is a physical version of the same game, I’m more than likely to get that one – unless the digital one is given to me for free or something.
I unfortunately will not be supporting Nintendo Network purchases and downloads until they get stuff right about consoles and account transfers. I went through too much of a hassle and heartache with my Wii and 3DS. Hundreds of dollars spent on downloads, never to be recovered.
For now, I’m enjoying my physical Wii U games. :]
Me to hope it never hapens but if it does hope the internet is free and those cards are easy to find
The only digital games I buy are Steam games made by Valve that doesn’t have a retail version in my country (love Portal 2 <3), or Indy games, such as Minecraft and etc.
But I will always support the retail version. Nothing beats the smell of a new game when you buy one, and opening the manual and instructions, admiring the artwork of it. Then you can put them in a nice place in your house to display your collection.
But just in case, always make a digital backup of them and store in an online database. ;p
I do the same. btw, Portal 2 is an exceptional title. :P
Well, if that isn’t an understatement …. lol
I love Portal 2. It’s excellent. :3
Same here. It was my GOTY for 2011.
Portal 2 is one of my favorite titles on Steam. :P
I actually do find it surprising nsmbu is the top one, i assumed people loved physical copies more than digital :/
Mighty Switch Force for the freaking win.
Wait Nintendo land is no. 10….does that mean people bought it seperately? Or does this include the Wii u deluxe sells?
Digital only list …
No my deluxe set game with the physical copy of Nintendoland. So these people paid $60 for digital copy of Nintendoland? I’m surprised by that. I hadn’t noticed the Wii U eshop yet, is there decent cheaper games
On there?
I love that Little Inferno is number 8, but I assume some were a little disappointed since its very special.
It’s great to see indie titles being listed in the top 20 Wii U eshop’s most downloadable titles. Trine 2: Director’s Cut is the most popular indie title this week.
It’s good, but I wonder what the sales figures are. I guess that’s the most important thing.
I think more than 5000 in a week for a indie is a good singht
I can’t deny your comment since you’ve made a great point. Whenever I come up with some savings, I’ll be purchasing an external hard drive (500GB to 2TB). But from now on, I’ll be purchasing the physical copies unless if they’re sold out.
Mighty switch force should be numer one.
Hecks to the no.
Trine 2: Director’s Cut is far better than Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition, and that’s no opinion either. It’s a fact.
I wholeheartedly agree with these rankings as they are also represented by the number of people in the Miiverse community. Perhaps this means that people are downloading more games from the Nintendo eShop than usual because of the incentive they get?
It sure does seem like it. :)
I downloaded nsmbu today as I didn’t want to leave the wii u downloading the update god forbid if I came back to a bricked system lol
Add me as a friend folks kjebb12
I truly love the BGM in both the original 3DS and Wii U versions of MSF. When next week comes, there’s a possibility that MSF: HD Edition to be in the top 3 games along witn New SMB U and Trine 2: Director’s Cut.
Nah, ZombiU will claim the same position for a few more weeks until Rayman Legends and Pikmin 3 come out eventually. Trine 2 may be trumped by MHSF!HDE and Nintendo Land soon though.
I know this is slightly off-topic, but did anyone go on the Nintendo eShop and notice the dramatically WRONG ratings games were given on Thanksgiving week?
ZombiU was rated as a Casual game (94%) for Everyone (87%) vs. Intense (6%) and only for Gamers (13%). .-,
Casuals must like to be scared shitless.
That’s what I said when I saw the numbers! XD
Still, it takes a pretty big screw up on Nintendo’s part for them to mess up the rating system and call Nintendo Land an Intense (79%), Gamer-only (85%) experience. Those are real numbers by the way. People were clearly posting the opposite labels, but something just went horribly wrong for Nintendo to make the opposite results appear on each game. o.o
lol!!! Well I know first hand that ZombiU is NOT for casual gamers…and is NOT for everyone. SO the ratings are completely botched if you ask me…
Regardless of the console, Support Indie games, they are our Future Tripple A developers.
That beign said, As soon as i get a WiiU, Chaising Aurora is mine >:] that game looks amazing.
Agree with supporting Indie devs but I hope you are wrong about them becoming triple A developers. Keep them Indie! Greenlight for the win!
Got numbers 1,2,3 and 5
“despite costing more to purchase digitally than at retail” this is false. In America, the eShop price is the same as the retail price. Please don’t spread lies~
Mr. Anonymous you are TOTALLY correct! Maybe UK’s online versions are more expensive??? Maybe he mixed the facts up???
Got top 5 :-P

I see there’s a bunch of total IDIOTS out there again. Sometimes I feel like just retiring from being a gamer and finding a new hobby.
MrRetroJunkie – How does one “retire” from being a gamer? You mean retire from coming to message boards and acting like a know-it-all? You can still play video games and do that… And the funny thing is, I agree with what you said. But you acted like it’s your job to come here and school the “idiots”. Psssh. Get a life.
@Anonymous
I just get sick of feeling like there’s no gamers out there in this world that I can truly relate to. And it makes me feel like not caring about games anymore because of it, because it just boils my blood to see things going the way they are in the industry. I despise digital downloads with a PASSION! And before you start telling me “don’t download them then, simple as that”, there’s a REASON I hate them. Three actually.
1. Because I’m afraid that this is leading to the entire game industry being nothing BUT digital downloads some day. Which would single-handedly end my gaming hobby forever. I’m a collector, and digital downloads is like not really even owning the game.
2. Nintendo is now SCREWING their bundle sets (such as the 3DS Mario Kart 7 bundle that was recently announced) by having the game pre-installed on the system instead of packing the actual physical game and case in the box. I’ll never care about bundle sets again if this becomes a standard.
3. I get SUPER annoyed when a game that I’m actually interested in is a stupid WiiWare exclusive (or whatever the DS and 3DS digital games is called). Like Mega Man 9 and 10. RETARDED! They should have been retail games.
See, THIS is why I get angry every time I read anything about people downloading games and causing digital downloads to become more and more popular. I wouldn’t mind so much if I truly thought that all games would ALWAYS and FOREVER have digital AND retail copies.
Glad to see Little Inferno is in the top 10! I was hoping the game would sell well, because I want to see Tomorrow Incorporation go far as an independent developer.
Since a third of Tomorrow Incorporated gets presumably 50% of World of Goo sales I think they are doing OK. I do agree it is a great game and everyone who has a little pyro in them should play it!
I downloaded NSMBU online….guilty as charged!! I also have Sonic Racing, ZombU, and Nintendoland(OBVIOUSLY!). My favorite game out of all 4 that I have is definitely Nintendoland. That game is SOOOOO good. I love it, can’t get enough of it!
Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum
it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your
blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new
to everything. Do you have any recommendations for novice blog writers?
I’d really appreciate it.
