New footage from New Super Luigi U was shown during today’s Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation. The downloadable title will be 1.5GB and will be available to download on June 19th (JP), June 20th (US), June 20th (UK). The retail version of the game will be available to purchase July 13th (JP), August 25th (US), July 26th (UK).
New Super Luigi U will feature eighty-two brand new courses and will feature the same world map as New Super Mario Bros U. Mario won’t be appearing in the game and will instead be replaced by Nabbit in multiplayer, who cannot be harmed by enemies, but cannot use power-ups. Each of the levels will only have 80 seconds in the clock, so it’s going to be tight. Will you be purchasing New Super Luigi U?
Many of the trailers, this one included, show up to 100 seconds on the clock per stage. Not 80.
it could be due to debug/show purposes, not necessarily needs to be 80 on the trailers, still kinda fail to see they didn’t bother to use the correct one
Could just be dependent on the stage. Some have 100, some 80, some other.
But I seem to recall Iwata in a previous Nintendo Direct saying that every level had 100 seconds.
maybe 80 on japan and 100 on west releases? Who knows, some games get some “difficulty differences” over the region they get released(Mario the Lost Levels for example)
Or maybe… MAYBE… Sickr just got it wrong.
looks good c:
Iwata said that it would have 100 seconds for each level, not 80. Btw. it’s real seconds. In the original nsmbu game it wasn’t seconds it was a little bit faster. so you have actually more time then 100 Mario Seconds.
Definitely getting this, and in the limited edition boxed version too…
the DLC comes almost 1 month before the retail one. Are you willing to wait that much?
Yes. Yes I am.
It costs £30 so I’d rather wait that month to have a hard copy anyway rather than something I might lose if my console ever breaks. The fact that it’s a limited edition just makes it more appealing.
It’ll be easy for me to wait. I’ll go on vacation for 2,5 weeks the day the DLC is released. And the other 2,5 weeks, I’ll have Game & Wario, and Dream Team to play.
you sir… are a genius!!!!! really.
Yes, please and thank you
Judging from Bowser Jr, there’ll be some changes in the boss battles
I hate the NSMB theme, it’s fucking shit, all the music is.
Honestly if the music in the “New” games was actually half decent i’d enjoy, but it’s not, it’s awful.
agreed, they are getting so lazy with the music, not just Nintendo, all games and the developers make crappy music nowadays, compare the infectious melodies and compositions from the 16bit and 8bit era to nowadays and there is a massive difference, i still listen to yuzo koshiro man the guy can make insane music, sega was a beast when it came to music in all thier games, Nintendo was too, the developers were better at it in the old days, think mega man 2 dr willy stage 1, man that is a instant classic!!! or the revenge of shinobi, china town, or streets of rage 1 and 2, or how about sonic 3, ice cap zone 1? i miss the old days, games, music, and films are garbage today mostly, where has all the creativity of the world gone??? sigh
Lots of games have good music these days, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Guacamelee, Metal Gear Riskg to name the most recent, and including modern Nintendo games, like Mario Galaxy and despite it’s flaws, Skyward Sword has great music.
It’s just the effort is left out entirely in these “New” games. The DS one was fine, and the Wii one besides from being lifeless, did have co-op, but now it’s done, it’s boring and it’s lacking innovation in the 2D side scrollers, and frankly while i blame Nintendo for not doing something about it, i mainly blame the fans.
Lots of people get on Metroid Fusion’s case for “not being like Super Metroid”, yet the game added so much more and had way better game design. The ability to climb, hang onto ledges, ceilings, having the diagonal aiming onto one button making it easier, getting rid of the “weapon switching” to make it more enjoyable, and overall less troll level design yet is still a challenging game.
People also trashed Wind Waker for being too different, yet now, when all “significance to the industry” and nostalgic arguements are set aside, most people agree Wind Waker was the best one, or Majora’s Mask.
Fact is fans just bug Nintendo to do the same thing over and over then whine when the game is too similar. Mario Galaxy was a product of people saying “give us Mario 64 sequel”, luckily ignored to an extent and pulled it off, but less succesful was Twilight Princess, a game made under the reaction from Wind Waker, in an attempt to be “more like Ocarina”, breaking the game down sequence by sequence, to the level design, items and general themes the game is basically Ocarina of Time 2. It manages to hide it well, to some, and still manage to be it’s own game, but it an example of a game with massive potential held back by pandering fans.
And its stuff like that which results in games like Metroid Other M, NSMB series, and the reason i worry about the new 3DS Zelda, as well as the future of the Star Fox series especially, a Star Fox game released now that’s exactly like 64 would be a joke, no-one should release a game based on 20 5-10minute levels, that would be pathetic.
I kind of want another Star Fox game based on that, it’s not like it’s a direction if they made another one I think and yet, Star fox was originality like that.. So it’s not pathetic to some.. There isn’t anything bad with Nintendo respecting fans by making some similar games, yet they still make some new ones I think, this is just sometimes for others and sometimes not. But yeah there was some problems.. Like NSMB should have new music, worlds, etc but still play the same as sequels I guess. But that’s also just my own thought.. :P
yet fuckers like U support crappy 3rd party games and called them good gtfo.
Such as?
yeah i thought they all had 100 seconds per level.
Nabbit is kind of disappointing. It’d be more fun if he could steal powers from other players instead of not really being a part of the game.
Not sure Im picking this uo, it doesnt seem like it has a point other than the courses being switched around, and a different usable character. I always wondered why the heck wouldnt Luigi be a playable character in the 1st place? Im not so sure I want another re-hash. Looking 4ward to a TON of other titles though…
Luigi IS a playable character in the first place.
Read up on the DLC before judging it next time.
facepalm read next time dumbass
Wow, they didn’t even bother to give Nabbit a swimming animation. Now that’s just lazy.
Is it me or is Luigis graphical (not sure if it’s the right word) character improved in this game?
Just because it’s the Year of Luigi, I can’t see why they’ve to bully Mario and not letting him be in the game while all the other characters are in it.
…Am I the only one who saw the Penguin Suit? Did that already appear in NSMBU, or am I just forgetful?
–Spoiler Alert–
It appears in World 9 in NSMBU.
It is ALSO in the challenge games.
And this is the only game atm released for summer to wii u(correct me if im wrong). All the other good games are comin in fall so i would expect them to release somethin more interesting for summer like deus ex or zelda ww.
Pikmin 3? The Wonderful 101? Rayman Legends?
Zelda ww is released in August no ? Splinter cell blacklist is released in August too , right ?? Correct me if I am wrong
Wait, wasnt Wind Waker September? That might just be utter rubbish, though thats what i recall.
Game & Wario.
I think Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 might release in June/July in Japan/UK. I believe both are August releases in the US.
For US U owners, from August on there will probably be a constant stream of games releasing through the Holiday season. Hope everyone started saving up already.
“The downloadable title will be 1.5GB and will be available to download on June 19th (JP), June 20th (US), June 20th (UK). The retail version of the game will be available to purchase July 13th (JP), August 25th (US), July 26th (UK).”
You know there are more countries in Europe than the UK, right?
Nabbit is for the weak
No for future great minds and gamers. He is a good way to usher in young kids to Luigi and Mario games.
Nintendo is sitting in a marvelous position. The xbox one is in trouble. Not only does the Wii U have half the great third party games releasing on that system, the PS4 has all of the others too, notably the casual FPSs. Alá COD, battle field and the likes. This is going to be a great Christmas. Calling it now, Wii U $300 Bundled with either Super Luigi-Mario Bros. U or Lego city undercover. With a pro controller and Wii U-mote nunchuck. Black Friday we might get monster hunter 3 Ultimate Bundle with the above controllers.
I bet Nabbit will be playable in mario kart U
I totally see it now! honestly that would be awesome
Any one think that Nintendo, in the future, will allow us to post videos to miiverse to compete with what the ps4 is trying to do?
eh, i dunno, It would be nice if they were to make a Built-in game recorder, for LPers with bad software, they only need a Mic. That would be nice, and you could save them to SD card and miiverse. i dont see it happening, for the wiiu, anyway.
I doubt it after Nintendo’s recent actions on YouTube. But I don’t think it’ll be good anyway. YouTube is going to be FULL of LPers all competing with one another, and I can see it becoming more about that than the games themselves.
* PS4 LPers
Yes, definitely buying. I traded my NSMBU last week since I’ve pounded it, every board and every star coin collected. Is the digital DLC only usable if you have a retail copy of NSMBU? If so I have to wait for retail for Luigi DLC, otherwise no way I could hold out a month to pay more for the box art, LE or not.
Its a standalone game, so you won’t need NSMBU to download or play it.
No, for the download version you need NSMBU. It’s DLC add on. For the stand-alone disc coming later you don’t need the original one. They announced that like first thing.
Whoops, my mistake. Good catch! I didn’t really pay attention to the DLC bit as I don’t download games, preferring to own the physical copies.
Nabbit definitely needs his own game at some point. I like the cheeky little thief.
im going physical, why, look at that shit its GREEN!!!!!! also i can easily wait for a freaking new game. also one of the reasons im getting it is, i think it actually might be harder and it will play different than mario u because of luigi moves are different.

As much as I don’t want to wait, I’m probably just going to get the retail version to save on HDD space.
looking forward to playing through this with my brother
I can tell.
I don’t understand Spanish. What’s this guy blabbing on about?
hey any old bastards agree with this, im from n64 generation so, this doesnt apply to me all the way and doesnt make me an old bastard to some of you new people who play games.
http://youtu.be/5ADh1A6lYtM?t=15s
I’m from the Sinclair Spectrum generation, and I DEFINITELY agree with this! It all went wrong around the time of the Playstation 1. I remember that I could suddenly finish games whereas before I’d be lucky to see the later levels!
I think the reason, though, is that developers are making their games more story-based, and they want you to see that story they’re so proud of. In the old days the storylines were thinner (rescue the kidnapped princess from the giant turtle) and the main point of the game was the challenge to get from point A to point B.
yeah it seemed that way, the n64 generation seemed to be the last where they just didnt point everything out. now pretty much every game tells you everything and seems to be way easier. like the pointing out thing, zelda SS, are you kidding me!!!!!
The challenge probably left during the mid to late 2000s when fledgling gamers became more bitchy compared to fledging gamers of my era.
Gamers have always been bitchy – I remember the Spectrum vs Amstrad vs Commodore wars! But better technology means that it is easier to tell a story, so games have become more about the story than the challenge. Take the Final Fantasy games, for example: I love Final Fantasy, but apart from the boss battles (which are a tiny part of the game) there is no challenge. You are essentially watching a movie unfold while inputting the various controls to move it along.

The physical copy shouldn’t be a month after the download version. Thats fucked up trying to make people switch to downloads. Yes you have the option but its clear they are pushing for downloads like everyone else. I will always have a physical copy and I don’t wanna wait a month for other games and shouldn’t have to with this one.
I am onboard with the complaints about the physical copy, that should be released as the same day as the DLC. Not everyone has high speed internet and those that do have it have to pay a premium to use it especially in regions where such systems are just be implemented or on the drawing board. As for the game itself, not too excited about the game as it is merely the same experience only with Luigi as the playable character. Would have liked to have seen something original for Luigi instead of just a sloppy rejig of Super Mario Bros. U. They could have added a custom boss and some storyline involving Luigi’s main squeeze, Daisy!
Speaking of annoying Princesses that need constant saving, does anyone know whether Princess Peach is in this game? Is Bowser the main villain once again?
I expected more for the so-called year of Luigi!
peach gets kidnapped on purpose so she can fuck bowser. look it all his kids and mario is so dumb he cant even see it. like in nsmbu she just lets him take her. she doesnt even move, she just sits there!!!!!!
