Bethesda, the critically acclaimed development studio behind The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, has reiterated that the company has no plans to develop for Wii U. Bethesda’s marketing exec Pete Hines says that this is due to hardware issues and that none of the games that Bethesda has in development will be coming to the struggling platform.
“It’s largely a hardware thing. We make the games that we want to make, on whatever platforms will support them as developed. None of the games we’ve announced are being developed for the Wii U, so it’s guaranteed that none of those games are coming to Wii U.”

You will regret it, hope so.
Well, Nintendo is a fix it now type while bethseda is a fix it later(maybe) type. The hardware excuse is ridiculous, they are just another bunch of lying cowards. Bethseda has lost my respect and therefore my intetest in thier games.
Hey Pikmin Salad people are saying “Well is works fine on PC and other consoles why not wii u?” and well it is because the game was designed for PC and the other consoles hope you understand if not reply to this content
And by the way….
FIRST.
How funny they aren’t on my radar either!
Indeed…
Those Bethesdians should be ashamed of themselves…
If Indie Tribes have no problems at all why do they?…
Better off not having their so called games as they would probably remove features and so on if they did a Wii U version…
They just don’t wanna create games for WiiU because of the low install base. Fallout and Elder Scrolls games would work great with the gamepad.
Maybe, but their latest game are full of bugs and if they have problems within their own turf, I can’t imagine how many more problems the Wii U versions would have…
I don’t ever recall encountering bugs on Skyrim for PC and Fallout3 for PS3 had no game breaking bugs too.
Strange, as most did have bugs as far as my knowledge about this game goes…
I completed the game on PC and has completed a few side quest while almost fully exploring the whole map(with dungeons) and I can assure you that I have not run into any bugs whatsoever. It was the PS3 port that had the most bugs.
Oh ok, then my friend has to be in the minority, PC wise…
Thanks for the explanation…
Tobuscus played Skyrim on the PC…had a few glitches…
When the games they make are as big as they are, it’s hard not to have a few glitches.
ok the reason why the game works well on PC, Playstation and XBOX is because IT WAS DESIGNED FOR THE FREAKING CONSOLES!!! JESUS WHY CAN’T YOU UNDERSTAND THIS!!! IT IS SO SIMPLE OMFG READ THE COMPATIBILITY LIST FOR THE CONSOLES NEXT TIME YOU COMMENT!!! good day.
Who needs their shitty RPG anyway.
Don’t remind me of Skyrim
(shudders)
millions upon millions apparently.
I can see this playing out already, ps4 Doesn’t sell…
last good RPG i bought from them was Oblivion, everything else was meh
You must have not played Fallout3.
fallout 3 was way meh than even Skyrim
What is the last good thing bethesda has even done? No. games simply published by them like Dishonored do not count.
I don’t respect them as a company. They not only reuse their engines, but they literally take only one year to design the game. Between that time they do the planning. Their games would be so much better if they put more effort into making them.
They have awesome ideas, but they’re nothing more than ideas because they don’t polish their products. Pretty much relying on mods and expansions to fix their game. Not to mention the combat in their “renowned” games like Skyrim are extremely simplistic and boring. I couldn’t care less if they skip the Wii U.
The combat in Skyrim was great, also Fallout3 had good gunplay with the VATS system. Sure the PS3 port was a mess but I had no problems with Skyrim on PC. Their engine has been significantly upgraded from Fallout3 to skyrim, Skyrim looked way better. You must not like their style of RPG.
The mods made for Skyrim on PC … oh boy …. jaw dropping to say the least.
yes, but those are mods. Skyrim itself is rubbish.
Skyrim was amazing. The ability to mod it just made it perfect.
That’s the problem with today’s gaming community…
You shouldn’t have to use mods to enjoy a game that should be as flawless as possible as soon as you buy it…
That’s what also makes these western forces so lazy to make great games without bugs and problem while gaining even more resources from stupid gamers…
//You shouldn’t have to use mods to enjoy a game//
So you are telling people how they should enjoy their games. Gotcha.
Please. back that up. Because without mods, the game is absolutely atrocious.
The combat sucks and is pretty much uses a system that’s been in PC games since the late 90s, the story is redundant, the physics are humorous at best using an engine that’s severely outdated, the direction is almost aimless with little to no reward for most of your exploration, the “difficulty curve” is almost non-existant, characters are horribly defined — especially by RPG standards, It has an incredible amount of game-breaking bugs that will, at the very least, make it near impossible to do a 100% run… need I go on? I can go all day as to why Skyrim and Bethesda in general are awful.
Bethesda needs to stop using the same damn engine, take more time to tune up their games, and overall make better games. You should NOT rely on mods to make a game good. A game should be complete in package ready to be enjoyed fully. Even a simplistic building survival game like Minecraft does that right. I have absolutely zero respect for Bethesda and their most recent works and will remain to have this opinion until they make some sort of effort to improve.
If they want to know what they can do to fix it, they should look at Dragon’s Dogma. Which is, quite literally, better in every single way except it can’t be modded. Combat is extremely dynamic, exploration is always rewarded with items, experience, or shortcuts, characters are charming, the story is actually extremely relevant while still giving you that “skyrim” freedom.. it’s just a better game. period.
Exploring dungeons in Skyrim rewards you with weapons and items too. Again while playing PC I have never run into any game breaking bugs. Physics could be better but are fine and the engine has been upgraded. It looks good as is.
yes. I very much enjoy finding ledges to slide down and monsters that launch me to the moon. Such good physics. 10/10.
Awesome. i found 10 gold coins, jewelry i’ll sell, armor I COULD sell but won’t take because it’s too heavy, and occasionally a nice frost dagger or something along those lines.
The bug part I either say you never tried to do everything, Bethesda patched the horrible bugs since I last played, or you’re very lucky. When I first got the game, the INTRO CUTSCENE bugged on me. The cart detached from the horses and I was stuck there. When I asked if other people experienced it, about 1 in 10 new games had the problem. other people having NPCs completely missing from the game or bugging out mid conversation. For example, I was in the middle of a ritual to get rid of my vampyrianism. Mid way through the ritual, the priests stopped and started to attack me.
So, yeah. I guess the experience varies from person to person. But several of us including myself simply can’t stand for that sort of nonsense.
Had a friend who encountered several bugs on PS3 and he still said he enjoyed the game. You can’t tell me seeing those giant enemies hurled into the sky wasn’t funny.
> Skyrim combat great
PLEASE. Tell me what is so wonderful about mashing a button to swing your weapon aimlessly and having magic spells that have virtually no difference other than the way they look? I hate to punch a gut here, but that’s a problem Zelda has, too. but even THAT GAME is much more fun with combat because you can use several weapons with distinct differences and monsters have much more specific weaknesses to abuse.
Play Dragon’s Dogma, Monster Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus, or a game like those that actually do good work at taking down large monsters and i’m pretty sure you could agree that Skyrim’s is pretty damn lackluster.
Played Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus. SotC although a really good game was easy, no real combat necessary. Just find a way to the weakness and kill it, it was more platforming than combat. Monster Hunter another good game I’ve played on 3DS and it was a bit repetitive also. Skyrim while I agree is a bit lackluster in combat but for what it is (an RPG) it is very fun. Different class has different combat style and being a stealth archer is just satisfying (its what I chose). Zelda? Different weapons? about 70% of the time you’re using your sword and bow. Your different weapons mainly serve as items to progress through dungeons and beat bosses within said dungeons.
Skyrim is fun in a way RPG’s are fun. You explore dungeons, grind, level up, choose skills, complete side quests, and complete story quests. Combat maybe simple but sure is fun and satisfying when you consider the game as a whole.
> a bit repetitive
YES. because in skyrim it’s TOTALLY not as repetitive.
THEY’RE ALL A GRIND. THEY’RE RPGS. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? the quality of the combat and how well rewarded you are. that’s what.
Skyrim doesn’t even guarantee you a reward. Most of the time it’s like “oh. A few coins.. some stuff that’s heavy and not worth much… oh, some jewelry.” and occasionally “YES. SOMETHING BETTER THAN I HAVE.”
Since you said you played monster hunter, you should know Monster Hunter ALWAYS gets you a reward. no matter what. And there’s far more to do with your reward as well. There are THOUSANDS of pieces of equipment, each with their own useful skills thanks to its unique armor-skill system. And each monster has very specific weaknesses e.g. elements, crush vs. slash, and soft spots on their body. That stuff alone makes Monster Hunter infinitely more fun. and it’s not even free roam.
You can’t expect to always be rewarded while exploring dungeons. Besides, not knowing if the dungeon yields rewards or not makes it that much satisfying when you actually do get rewarded. Plus you’re rewarded with xp for effort I guess. Dungeons aside yes I know how complex the armor skill system in Monster Hunters but even if you or many others agree in it being infinitely more fun than Skyrim it doesn’t mean Skyrim isn’t fun at all. Still say stealth archer is the most fun way to enjoy Skyrim or any RPG game for that matter (gunner for MH).
True, true. I definitely agree that not every dungeon/kill should completely spoil you with gifts. But having the right balance of give and take is important. You don’t want to clear an severely dangerous task for some items that would be useful to you 10 levels ago. I feel at the very least this could be improved so that the difficulty curve rightfully justifies the reward.
It’s nice to see we’re at least somewhat on the same page at this point. I do apologize if I make myself look rash. I mean, i’m not trying to look like some sort of nerdfest. I’m just severely concerned about the quality put into games these days and want to see things evolve properly. It doesn’t hurt to stray away from your basis or to take a little more time. Some franchises wouldn’t be where they are today without that risk.
ahhhh Bugthesda, though I play all your games on PC, youu still cant really make a stable game. Not to mention the terrible release of skyrim on ps3 i heard so much about.
Bugthesda lololol. Im gonna use that name for now on.
when was a Nintendo console ever on Bethesda’s radar
That’s… a very poor excuse if I do say so myself.
Agreed. I love there games, but wow what a shitty excuse.
Everyone blaming Bethesda but shitty excuse aside, it was ultimately a business choice and they see no profit in investing money on the WiiU and with the bad media that has been surrounding WiiU I wouldn’t blame them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQrYwYbwlS4
Dont whine about hardware when you cant use it to its full potential.
Game still needs polish though.
Xenoblade chronicles alone puts Bathesda to shame. A game so worthy it sales for over $100 used ( really though this price is ridiculous ). X-gears or Xenoblade two shall put all Bathesda’s ideas and their nonsense on display. X by the way is running on its own engine, Tell the BLACK BOND and other PC orcs that the CryEngine 3 could have been used on X easily. Crytek have put the superior cryEngine 3 on the WiiU. It being far better than unreal mess engine 4 by the way.
Awesome I agree
Im fine with this. Bethesda is first and foremost a PC developer, and that is where i will always play big RPGs. I dont care what other platforms they develop for, as long as PC remains their highest focus
Whelps, I can pirate their games on PC, so no huge loss there.
Just kidding, but I can wait their games are 20€ on steam with all the DLC.
Bethesda is lazy, their games are designed to eat up all the memory, and never release it.
That’s pretty much why Fallout 3 becomes unplayable after a while on ps360.
Bathesda you cannot program worth for poop. Glitch filled gaming should indeed be left for the PS3 and xbox360.” It’s a hardware issue.” A man named Shigeru Miyamoto has made a game Pikmin 3 with more creativity than all of Bathesda put together. A man named Shigeru Miyamoto has made games that started you gaming, now like THQ and Vigil Bathesda insult nintendo, another third party being proud.
Bathesda : “Pride commeth before a fall.”
P.S I have stated those words before, look at what happened to your other friends, plus Microsoft with drm and EA’s current money woes.
I agree with you, games like Super mario galaxy and Donkey Kong Country Returns proved that actually a good dev dont need most powerfullest hardware to create clever innovative and fun experience. Devs like bethesda are just mad that Nintendo never creates hardware for them like sonny and microshit.
It’s a a God Miyamoto not man…
Is someone going around every month to ask every developer if they have a Wii U project? Didn’t they say the same thing 1 or 2 month ago? No surprise and old news for me.
I think mynintendonews has had 3 articles of saying bethesda is not making wii u games.
I know right. Stopped caring about none issue western third parties. Nintendo and the WiiU shall do great. Even Activision with Ghosts shall do great on the WiiU if they add all DLC. I Gamer am buying COD ghosts. Activision have shown that their money loving ways know no bounds nor prejudice, because their old ass engines and games are put on all machines. The Wii got all their COD of duties, even with the 0.5 engine they ceremoniously used on that system lol. Bathesda we have X and Zelda on WiiU for entry RPGs and a slew of indie ones, great ones at that. A shady eternal darkness is coming to WiiU and PS4, so we don’t care for your mess. We have Pikmin 3 and monster hunter 3 Ultimate.
Monster hunter 4 is coming to 3DS a game with more story and game
If CoD Ghosts has Online Multiplayer for 2 just like BO2 then I might be interest to be honest…
I miss knifing the crybabies…
COD with Wii mote nunchuck support is beautiful. I must say so myself :).
I think most FPS games done right for the Wii and Wii U using the Wiimore and Nunchuck is just great…
It took the gaming experience of Resident Evil 4 even higher…
Resident evil 4 and the Metroid games did motion controls right. The other FPS games I really can’t get into it using the Wiimote.
I thought Goldeneye had a pretty solid control aswell…
I don’t really like CoD, but I love playing CoD with wii mote.
Just like I loved playing games with ps move.
Hardware issues…. FUCKING HARDWARE ISSUES?!?! FOR FUCKS SAKE, Skyrim and Dishonored are not even close to be considered as ‘benchmarks’ for PC, so why the hell it’s a hardware issue?!?! HUH?!?! Fuck! Crysis 3 IS a benchmark for PC and Crytek themselves confirmed that their engine and game ran great on Wii U! And all of their games are coming BOTH TO PS3 & X360!!! IF THOSE CONSOLES CAN HANDLE YOUR “high-end-PCs-only” games, then Wii U can run theme EVEN BETTER!
Unless they mean by “hardware issues” the gamepad because they have no fucking idea on how to use the damn thing, then I guess I can’t blame them; though I can’t believe that experienced developers are clueless on how to use it when people like me, who have never made a game, just see it and hundreds of crazy ideas come to my mind… And if Lhardware issues” means “hardware’s not selling”, again, I can’t blame them… After all, sadly, it’s the truth….
^ This. So much. Bethesda is just a junk company.
ok we get it you are one of the 100 people that dont like bethesda out of millions that do.
why do people keep asking them about the Wii U?! Who the f*ck cares? I would never play their games on anything else but a PC anyway.
Everybody calm yourselves, Nintendo have survived the console wars without 3rd parties better than these Skyrim clowns, if they don’t wish to support Nintendo, Nintendo fans should not support them
If this statement is accurate, then it sounds somewhat arrogant. What their saying is similar to what EA said about thire Frostbite 3 engine not working on the Wii U. Remember that? Come to find out, EA was lying, but we already knew that. When Bethesda was first asked about Wii U development, they simply said there wasn’t anything being made because they normally haven’t developed for Nintendo. Now they’re saying it’s due to the hardware. Like EA, I smell another lie. If these developers don’t want to develop for Nintendo, just say that. But please stop lying!
Funny thing is that EA actually have games that are somewhat enjoyable compared to these Bethesdians. They too will one day want to crawl back. Never played any Bathesda mess in the past, will not play their mess in the future either, make memories like FF6 then talk Bathesda. Why did the Kings Quest company have to fold, the made better point and click RPG than these Bathesdians.
I’ve only tested Oblivion, not my type of game at all…
It seems so childish compared to Zelda games…
Not talking about graphics now to whoever feels compelled to argue…
Pingback: Bethesda: Nessun gioco in sviluppo per Wii U
Nobody cares.
Oh Bethesda, aren’t those the guys that have turned bugs into features.
Every game they release is a clusterfuck of game breaking bugs.
It’s ok. Any committed gamer will have either a PS4, XB1 or PC as well as a Wii U. So they can enjoy Bethesda’s games on one of those.
As I’ve mentioned before, if you stick to one console you just end up limiting your experiences.
So you choose to support arrogant companies?
I don’t give a monkeys about any company. I just go where the games, that appeal to me, are.
If you don’t care about a company you don’t support them.
That’s just your opinion.
Please understand, not everyone has the $$$ to support multiple consoles, and that does not make them any less a committed gamer.
The lack of committment refers to those that CHOOSE to stick to one console. As for those that cannot afford to support more than one, they have my sympathies. At least consoles and games become cheaper over time, so they can join in eventually.
This statement coming from a company that had major issues porting the last elders scroll game over to the PS3 due to it’s partitioned ram pools. What a fucking joke.
another dev, another whack excuse..and they wonder why we only buy 1st party titles ??
Too many negetive responces to this game…Though I agree with philps, ^ with this many negetive thoughts, its a good thing they didn’t bring it over.
phil, sorry.
It’s ok, matey.
I think they’re just bitter about yet other dev poopooing Wii U. But can you blame them? They have big ambitions for their IP and Wii U just doesn’t offer them to technical freedom to realise them.
Does an artist stick to black and white, when they are offered all the colours of the rainbow?
cant wait for dishonored 2 on ps4.
wii u should be know as first party console end of the discussion
damn that’s rough. blunt and harsh. we’ll see if things can’t get better when wiiu sales flies off the charts.
When I read “due to hardware issues” I actually read “we are lazy and do not want to learn to program in a new architecture, but we are dodging the bullet by giving a excuse that will drive the blame to the company that manufacture the console”.
Never realized how scathing nintendodrones have become. Anyone that is actually a fan of any Bethesda release knows they are better for PC anyway. Even if I had a wii.. I wouldn’t want to play it on it. Why so up in arms about something that’s been an issue since they even started making games. The last time they even made a release for a nintendo platform was in 2009.. I don’t understand why all the bitching. There was 3 releases since like 98 and 2 of those were for the DS or something. Not many games of that scale are available for wii anyway due to the size. QQ guys QQ.
No need to go attacking gamers for liking things you don’t like just because you can’t have it…
It’s not the fact that they aren’t supporting the Wii U. It’s the fact that they lie.
Don’t release any games on the 360/PS3. Considering the fact that those are weaker systems to the U.
^ My comment
right.. of course skyrim wouldn’t have worked on the wii U XD
these guys are being ridiculous
bethesda is losing my respect on a daily basis
Well I am of two minds on this…
Fuck ’em! Games were meant for the PC anyway.
and
Nintendo should have waited like Sony, the fence sitting assholes!
That way, the other guys hand would have been revealed and the games could have been piled up to the roof ready to launch. Nintendo has jumped the gun far too soon and more often than the other guys who are riding the rails so to speak.
I could care less about Bethesda. None of their games have been interesting for me. The last game I played was Fallout and its pretty much the same thing only with a different setting/environment. The outdated camera system, the sometimes crumby control scheme, the everything is covered in shit palette of the game, and of course, the leveling up bullshit.
However, I did love the classes/races, character creation stuff and the open world system as well as the music.
The end point is, oh well. Next!
There little comment about gurantee was really rude and personal. It sounds like they have a vendetta against nintendo.
They can take their poor excuses somewhere else.
Talk to me when you actually play test your games.
good one :)
failed to play skyrim due to compatibility issues.. and menu issues… and so many other issues
I had Fallout: New Vegas for PS3. Not only did it bore me, it was pretty glitchy.
I will not play the next Fallout without my gamepad. No Wii U no buy.
They have always been lazy and their programers are terrible. Not a single game of their’s isnt filled with glitches. They simply dont want to take the time to learn how to tweak their games to run on different architecture. Yet they will be forced to when the PS4 and Xbox One come out.
