Sakurai Reveals That Character Outlines In 3DS Smash Bros. Can Be Customized

smash bros

Masahiro Sakurai, speaking from the Director’s Room on the Miiverse today, informed fans of Super Smash Bros. that the black outline surrounding characters in the 3DS version of the game can be made thinner or turned off. The outlines have drawn the interest and concern of fans when the first pictures of the game were released. Sakurai has said that the lines help players to discern playable characters from the backgrounds on the small 3DS screen. In true Sakurai fashion, even this aspect of the game has now been revealed to be customizable. Here is what he had to say on Miiverse about the above picture:

Pic of the day. I guess we haven’t shown the Villager or the Wii Fit Trainer on the 3DS until now. By the way, their outlines can be made thinner or made to disappear completely.

      1. oops i foolishly did a “Title Reply” rather than reading the short artical. : /
BTW the lines were added to bold in the characters because they were more difficult to see on the 3DS screen compared to the Wii U/TV. :P

    1. yah ppl (usually the graphic whores) -__-‘ where complaining that hey look like cartoons or cutouts but this should be good now. :P

              1. Actually I was referring to “People”. Unless a full stop has been placed after “Yeah”, why has the “P” been capitalized?

    1. HA! lol i just noticed it. But dont worry.. its still in development. Besides shadows are the least of their tasks.

  1. Thanks for letting me remove lines off a game!!! So much customization!!! What will I do? Remove some lines yay!!!

      1. Oh man that game is just rush. I am sorry but that game was decent until the DLC craps. I don’t mind the trials and the menu even known they are horrible but oh man. I wish they did a better job with that game. Good thing I got the game free for my Vita by… getting it on the… PS3… I really wish I haven’t bought that game in the first place.

          1. Yea, that is a shame. Look like we got used to PS Vita to PS3 connectivity or PS Vita to PC. That’s will be cool if we can play with 3DS and Wii U owners at the same time.

    1. Playing on the 3DS competitively will be a challenge but playing on the go will be amazing granted the AI will be improved

If you mean ONLY getting this version then you’d be right. Not getting the Wii U version is idiotic. I’m getting both though.

  2. 3DS has very weak hardware. Mario 3D Land runs at 30fps even though it’s such an undemanding title.

    Just sayin’

    1. You do know the 3DS does 60fps easily depending on a developer right? As for your comment what were trying to say lol.
