Ubisoft Welcomes Mobile Gaming, Says Wii U Is “A Great Machine”

Executive director of Ubisoft, Alain Corre, has stated that he believes mobile gaming will bring more consumers to the world of gaming, who will eventually desire a more complete experience and seek out consoles. He also commented on Ubisoft’s relationship with Nintendo, saying that Wii U is “a great machine,” but that Nintendo needs to put “more energy” into it. Ubisoft infamously reverted course in its decision to make Rayman Legends a Nintendo exclusive.

Corre also complimented the Wii U’s gamepad, which may have been an act of damage control after Rayman director Michel Ancel recently criticized the device. The first review of the new Rayman game for Wii U surfaced today.

Corre’s comments about mobile gaming follow a report released just yesterday that showed Android has for the first time surpassed dedicated gaming handhelds like 3DS and Vita in game sales.

Here is what Corre had to say about mobile gaming and Nintendo, respectively:

“What we like in mobile gaming is that it’s bringing a lot of new people to games, which for us is very good because it’s a teaching thing and… at one point, some of them will feel a bit limited with the scope of mobile games and they’ll want to experience something different in gaming.”

“We consider the Wii U a great machine [and] the GamePad is second to none… We just need Nintendo to put more energy [in]. A lot of consumers will want this machine if the energy is put in.”

      1. Indeed…

I sincerely hope the Ubisoftians do not betray us more as I’m on the fence of disliking them right now…

Watch Dogs will be the ultimate decision for me…

If it doesn’t get gimped or other nonsense then they will regain my trust…

        1. Commander… the force from Ubisoft is already strong after the release of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist on the U. And so far, the Miiverse in North America have 3,228 likes for that game.

          1. I see…

Still there have been plenty of both praises and negativity from their part a lot of times in such a short time…

I’m not satisfied either to put my money on games that have less features for a full price…

But maybe Splinter Cell is somewhat cheaper now?…
            (E-Shops don’t count)

But still Watch Dogs will be my definitive line of descision…

              1. Let me know about your personal reviews for their games like Splinter Cell if you buy them…

Watch Dogs caught my interest ever since it’s reveal, I really hope it lives up to the hype…

        2. Commander if I may be so as to say, in fairness ubisoft have put just as much if not more effort in the wii u than Nintendo… But they do have to protect their own interest to… DONT SEND ME TO THE GALLOWS PLEASE D:

          1. Do not fear comrade!

We are a Democratic Empire, evrrybody can express their thoughts…

And obviously you won’t be sent to the Gallows…

            Maybe the Pits…

Anyway, well you have some point there…

High Command got too confident with NSMBU and NintendoLand…

I personally feel that their supremeness should habe launched SM3DW as a launch title instead…

Maybe I’ll be sent to the Gallows for my tone…

            Forgive my insolence my lords!

    1. Uh hello! I hop not I relly haate wen bulys at scool tel mii the Wii u is a tableet I relly griinds mii geers I don’t luv it !

    2. They aren’t but this is probably condensed his comments for this site.

And again here we are citing a flawed report that should have no bearing on business decisions.

  1. Makes sense. If you are into mobile gaming (which focuses on touch screen devices), it is a natural introduction to console gaming by going to the Wii U when you are ready for the real gaming experience. I think Nintendo is in a position to dominate again, if they can get the message out, and get people excited about the Wii U. It is a great console, but it needs to reach more than the core Nintendo fans – that is the bridge they should exploit to do so.

By the way, loving Blacklist. Thank you Ubi!

  2. The new CryEngine has Ubisoft praising nintendo. Didn’t Crytek say there were two games in development using their cryEngine 3 technology. It wouldn’t surprise me now if there was a third Game that will have Gamer performing a song of time on the Ocarina, STARFOX or F-ZERO maybe?

  3. Silence vermin. You will be exterminated by our new weapon we’ve been developing. With this your empire will cease to exist.

    1. Xbox Commander?…

      Another thing copied from us…

And it would atleast have been more appropriate with “Microsoft Commander” or “Xbot Commander”…

      1. Excuse my mistake. I put myself at your level which is a huge mistake. I am a higher ranking than you lowly grunt.

    1. Well those people might buy a video game console because they like the mobile games.

Also ask yourself this question: Do you want to play Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for 5 minutes? I rather play Angry Bird for 5 minutes. But if I got half hour or more free time then I probably aiming toward Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

  4. The words “mobile” and “gaming” are two words that should have NEVER gone together. I consider mobile gamers to be the most casual of casual gamers. Like, people who loves crappy games.
