During the investors meeting yesterday Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explained that they will begin to actively expand their character licensing business with who they deem to be appropriate partners. Who these partners are remains to be seen, but we’ve already seen Nintendo license their characters in titles such as Mario & Sonic and the recently announced Hyrule Warriors. Who would you like to see Nintendo partner up with?
[Nintendo] will actively expand our character licensing business, including proactively finding appropriate partners. Also, we will be flexible about forming licensing relationships in areas we did not license in the past, such as digital fields, provided we are not in direct competition and we can form win-win relationships.
By moving forward with such activities globally, we aim to increase consumer exposure to Nintendo characters by making them appear in places other than on video game platforms

if this means :DISNEY – NINTENDO LAND THEME PARK RESORTS, ZELDA AND METROID FILMS,STARFOX F ZERO AND ICE CLIMBERS BEING MADE TO HIGH STANDARDS BY OTHER COMPANIES ( luigis mansion Mario strikers and poucnhout are some that just work soooo well!) AND AGREESIVE ADS ONPHONES AND EVERYWHERE then…….great!

I hope they license out older characters. Like what Sakurai did with Pit. He brought him back to life in a whole new way! I hope they allow other developers to use the Ice Climbers, Balloon Fighter, or even Mr. Game and Watch and R.O.B. and make new games for them because new gamers KNOW them because of Smash, and I think people would really take kindly to seeing some new content from these franchises we know Nintendo is probably never going to touch again.
This. Kamiya better take care of Takamaru and expand upon his universe very well since he did make the very Japanese Okami before.
Give Ridley Scott the rights for making a Metroid film. He would get it right.

Yeah, Ridley was actually named after Ridley Scott. The Metroid games’ stories are loosely based on the Alien franchise.

On the one hand, this could be good. It could mean franchises that haven’t seen an instalment in years get another chance.
On the other hand, giving Nintendo’s franchises to other developers could result in games not up to Nintendo’s usual standards. We don’t want other developers using Nintendo’s characters in substandard games.
Shin’en to do F-Zero would be a good choice. Platinum for Starfox maybe.
But things like Hyrule Warriors makes me wary. Licensing out a franchise as huge as Zelda to be a Dynasty Warriors game. Does not seem like a great idea.
Bringing in third party studios to help with some of their franchises isn’t a bad idea. But Nintendo needs to make sure they keep standards high. Being lax about licensing characters out could bring forth a flood of mediocore games that lower the quality and appeal of Nintendo’s highly praised franchises.
No more animes or cartoons that’s for sure. NINTENDO making an entrance to a Company vs. Company (like Marvel vs. Capcom, DC vs. MK, etc.) Or a multi platform game like Disney Infinity or doing something with Monster Hunter even and almost emulating their classic and very addictive 2d platformers and giving them a whole new perspective of those games with still a touch of the classic game like they’ve always done would seem pretty fun.

I’d love to see another attempt at a Mario cartoon. Better writing and less overt stereotyping and I think it would be great!
Also, give Two-Tribes something. The Ice Climbers maybe? it would be cool to see that property emerge as a puzzle platformer.

I’ve always said Shin’in for FZero but they seem to want to make their own (fast racing neo).
Platinum should be allowed to work on a new starfox, sega should develop a new f-zero, and they should let some company make a new ice climbers. Maybe even make one of Nintendo’s franchises cross over with another company’s franchise
This is fine, as long as they carefully consider who is capable of handling their treasured IPs.
Let treasure make starfox and let sumo digital have a go at fzero
